Now is your chance to RSVP for the annual Gifu AJET "Bounenkai & JLPT Otsukaresama Super Happy Fun Party" Saturday Dec. 13th!
This enkai, thrown by the same folks who brought you the wild and wacky Halloween Costume Extravaganza, is a Japanese cultural mainstay. Friends, family, and colleagues gather at the Bounenkai to welcome the new year afresh, and to celebrate the passing of the previous year. It's the perfect time to say otsukaresamadeshita to your friends before the holidays, catch up with old friends you haven't seen in a while, and to make new friends for the coming winter months. As the meritorious Matsunami-san says, we do this, "with lots of FOOD, DRINK, and SMILES!"
In addition to celebrating the new year in traditional Japanese style, we would like to inject a bit of the holiday spirit into the party. Many of us are far from family and friends and won't have the chance to give or receive holiday gifts this year. So, we are going to try a gift exchange. If you would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift that costs about 1,000 yen. Be creative and think of something that others might enjoy. The gift exchange will be run "white elephant" style, so when you bring your gift you will be given a number. Then, later in the party people will start to choose gifts based on their order. For example, the person with #1 will start by choosing a gift and opening it. Then the person with #2 will have an opportunity to pick a new gift from the pile or steal a gift that has been previously opened. The game continues until all the presents are claimed. It's a lot of fun and a great way to spread some holiday cheer, but it isn't mandatory.
We want this party to be a big one! We can have up to 80 people! Not only do we hope all you JETs can come, but we'd love love for any former JETs, Japanese, and non-JETs to join us. This party is a great chance to meet new friends. As with every AJET event, anyone and everyone is welcome. Bring your friends, spread the word, and RSVP early.

AJET Autumn Excursion
Come explore beautiful Tono with other jolly revelers Sunday Nov. 30th. As with all AJET events, anyone and everyone is welcome! The more the merrier!!! (until the 38th RSVPer! Unfortunately 38 is our merriness limit!) So send in those RSVPS ASAP!
Autumn Leaves!
Fall is the most beautiful season in Japan and Gifu has some of the best Fall foliage in Japan. So what better way to view the blazing colors of Fall than with them framing an ancient Buddhist temple, lining the banks of a deep water gorge, or surrounding a traditional mountain village?
Come enjoy kouyou (fall foliage viewing) with the AJET Autumn Excursion Sunday November 30th! Kouyou is gorgeous and an extremely popular fall activity.
First we'll go to Eihoji temple in Tajimi. It's famous for it's well-tended grounds (especially it's maples and a 600yr old ginkgo) and a beautiful arched bridge. Then after lunch, we'll have an hour long tour on a party boat in Ena gorge, famous for it's Spring and Fall trees, and many unusual rock formations. We'll finish at Magome, a traditional mountain village on the border between Gifu and Nagano.

Pottery Tour!
Hey everybody-- your friendly neighborhood Gifu AJET here. Our August
events were decidedly rain-soaked, but we're back again this month,
hopefully drier, with a great event!
This month, we're flexing our artistic muscles with a Gifu Pottery
tour. As you may or may not know, Gifu Prefecture is famous for its
ceramics. This is your chance to see a part of Gifu's history, plus--
total bonus-- you get to try your hand at the pottery wheel and can
get some shopping in as well!

Who: Everyone! Well, the first 50 people to RSVP of that everyone.
What: Gifu Pottery Tour- Museum, Pottery making, Outlet shopping
When: September 27 (Saturday) from 11:00 am to 8pm. (Rain or shine!)
Where: Ceramic Park MINO and Toki Premium Outlets
Estimated Cost: 4,000~5,000 yen, depending on how many people participate.
We'll be visiting Tajimi's Ceramic Park MINO to check out the Wedgwood
pottery exhibition, then we'll be throwing our own pieces at the
Ceramic Park's pottery studio. From there we'll head to Toki Premium
Outlets, where you can enjoy Japan's true favorite pastime--shopping- -
or just chill with friends at one of the many cafes. The studio can
only take so many people at a time, so we have a limit of 50 people
that can participate.
Getting there--
Pickup #1 at JR Gifu Station at 10:45. Please meet in front of Vie
de France. The bus will leave promptly at 11.
Pickup #2 is at JR Tajimi Station at 12:45
Coming back-- The bus will drop off people at both Tajimi Station
(18:30) and Gifu Station (20:00).
Food- Please bring a lunch to eat on the bus if you are coming from
Gifu. There are also lots of restaurants and cafes at Toki for a meal
or just something to nosh on later in the day.

お疲れ様です！
8月の週末は残念ながら天候に恵まれませんでしたが、9月はやります！
9月のAJETイベントは、「陶芸ツアー」です！
いろいろな国籍の人たちと、国際交流しながら文化を体験し、さらに自分で陶磁器を作って、
なおかつ買い物までしようという、充実した内容のツアーです！

いろいろな国籍の人たちと、国際交流しながら文化を体験し、さらに自分で陶磁器を作って、

中止：栄ツアーとビアガーデン
お疲れ様です！
本日（8・30）に予定していた栄ツアーとビアガーデンですが、
雨のため中止にしますので、よろしくお願いします！
ビアガーデンのオープンは8月までなので、延期はなしです！
今年は定員も増やしてもらって、60人ほどになるはずだったんですが、

通算5回目になった、Gifu AJETの栄ツアーとビアガーデン！
8月23－24日（土・日）のAJET板取キャンプ↓と合わせて要チェックです！

日本の「当たり前」を、別の視点から感じることができます！

The AJET Beer Garden on Saturday the 30th is a great chance to relax for an all-you-can-eat/all-you-can-drink evening at a rooftop beer garden. We have 50 spots reserved, so send your RSVPs in quickly! You don't want to miss out!
New JETs, come to Nagoya early for a walking tour in the thriving hub of Sakae. It's packed with restaurants, import food stores, clubs and music spots, and important stops like the Mac Store. You should know your way around this area of Nagoya!
Afterwards, feel free to take the opportunity to explore Nagoya's nightlife with new friends. It is the closest big city to Gifu!

What: A Party to Welcome all the New JET's to Gifu and Celebrate a New Year
When: August 23rd and 24th
Where: New Itadori Campland
Cost: Estimated 6,000yen (with bus) 5,000 yen (without bus)
This is one of the most anticipated events of the year. A chance to meet and celebrate with the new JET's before the school year begins!
We will spend the afternoon relaxing at the campground and playing in the waters of a cool mountain stream. Then, as the sun sets (and hopefully it gets a bit cooler) we will have an all you can eat and drink bbq. Once your belly is full of delicious food, you can talk, dance, swim, sleep, play games, or whatever else strikes your fancy (within reason, of course).
We have 16 bungalows rented at New Itadori Campland. Each bungalow can sleep 5 people, this means that the limit for this event is 80 people. (And that limit is FIRM) Make sure to get your RSVP's in early to make sure we have room for you!
Getting There - You can either ride the chartered bus or you can carpool with a friend, whichever is easiest for you (directions to the campland will follow in another email). The chartered bus will leave from JR Gifu Station on Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00pm SHARP! Please meet outside Vie de France at 12:30. There are only 55 spaces on the bus, so make sure to get your RSVP in quickly to be sure there is room for you!
Returning Home - There will NOT be a chartered bus on Sunday. The camp does have access to a bus stop with several options for getting back to Gifu Station (or you can catch a ride with a newfound friend). More details about the return trip will be provided in a future email.
Meals - Dinner (Saturday, 23rd) and Breakfast (Sunday, 24th) will be provided for you. Lunch on Saturday will not. Be sure to eat lunch before getting on the bus, or bring food with you. We don't want any starving campers!
Cost - Estimated 6,000 yen (with bus) and 5,000 yen (without bus). This is a great deal if you consider all that you are getting - a nights lodging, all you can eat and drink bbq, breakfast, time/space to play in a river. First-year JETs, payday is on the 21st, there is no excuse to skip out!!
What to Bring - Swimsuit, Sunscreen, Bug-spray, Change of Clothes, Sturdy Sandals (for playing in the river), Necessary Toiletries, Sleeping Stuff (FYI...The bungalows are rustic with wooden floors, blankets will be provided but futons will not. If you prefer a more plush sleeping environment it might be wise to bring something soft to sleep on.)
RSVP - The RSVP and cancellation deadline is Wednesday, August 20th. If you must cancel after that deadline, please find someone to replace you, otherwise you will still have to pay for this event.

イベント！８．２（土）長良川花火大会！
長良川花火大会まであと4日となりました～ 楽しみですね！
みなさんもGifu AJETと花火を楽しみましょう！
Gifu AJETの場所は、
長良川の北側で金華橋と長良橋の間、旗が立っている近くです。
岐阜都ホテルのほぼ真南の階段のところに敷物を設置しました。
外国人がたくさんの大集団ですので、近くにこれば見つかると思います！
この場所に直接お越しいただいても構いませんし、

Gifu AJETの場所は、
長良川の北側で金華橋と長良橋の間、旗が立っている近くです。
岐阜都ホテルのほぼ真南の階段のところに敷物を設置しました。
外国人がたくさんの大集団ですので、近くにこれば見つかると思います！
この場所に直接お越しいただいても構いませんし、
合流できるか不安な場合は、
JR岐阜駅1階ヴィドフランス前に4時に来てください。

Event: Nagaragawa Fireworks!
Just 4 more days until the best firework show that Gifu has to offer. Is everyone getting excited?!
Please come and join AJET along the banks of the river so that we can enjoy this superb event together!
Our space is west of Kinkabashi on the north side of the Nagara river. We set up a tarp on the stairs just south of the Gifu Miyako Hotel. (FYI...the stairs are hard and the fireworks are long, bring a cushion if you'd like to be more comfortable) Just look for the big group of foreigners, we are hard to miss!
You can either head to the event yourself, or come meet us in Gifu Station. AJET will be meeting a group outside of Vie de France at 4pm on Saturday afternoon. We will be leaving shortly after 4pm, don't be late! Once we have the gang together we will fight the crowds and make our way to the river.
Bring your friends, drag along any new JETs that you know, and come prepared for a good time!
And don't forget to come prepared for the heat, it will be hot and there will be tons of people.

今年も7月末から、新しい外国人英語教師がたくさん岐阜にやってきます！

ビアガーデンにも参加される方は、引き続き会場まで案内します。

Gifu AJET holds a variety of events and parties throughout the year so that the JETs of Gifu (and anyone else who wants to come!) can socialize and integrate, explore Gifu and Japanese culture, and just have fun.

Sat, August 2 - Nagaragawa Fireworks
Meet at Vie de France at 4:00 to take the bus shortly thereafter. Following the fireworks, we'll walk back into Gifu where people can continue partying at bars.
Saturday-Sunday, August 23-24, Itadori Welcome Camp
Bus riders will depart from JR Gifu Station, car drivers can arrive at New Itadori Camp Land from 1. We'll relax by the stream and party all day. A BBQ dinner will be provided. The following day, guests can catch a bus back (one comes around midday), or carpool. (More details coming soon!)
Sat, August 30 - Sakae Tour & Beer Garden
Tour starts at 3pm from Nagoya station. Tour participants please meet at the golden clock by Takashimaya and the escalators (Sakura-dori side of Nagoya station). Beer Garden at 6:30 at the Chunichi Building in Sakae. 3500 yen. 50 reserved seats. Afterwards, feel free to continue partying at the numerous bars and clubs in the surrounding area.
We hope to see you all at each of these events. They're excellent opportunities to experience Gifu culture and socialize with old and new friends. See you soon!

・夏キャンプはカジュアルなパーティですので、夜まで友達と自由に楽しんでください。ロッジの隣には小さな川があり、涼んだり入ったりもできます。ロッジは広いので、話したりゲームをしたり好きなことをして遊んでください。パーティーの前に、加子母村周辺の観光もできます。日曜の午後は、近くの通りでバンド演奏がありますので、ぜひご覧になってください。
・内容生ビール、カクテル、ソフトドリンクは、到着次第飲み放題開始です。夕食は7時半からになります。おいしいカレー食べ放題（ベジタリアン用あり）と、サラダとお菓子です。日曜の朝食は、シリアル、ジュース、果物等です。
・交通手段ロッジには駐車場が充分あります。もし車で来られるなら、ぜひ友達と乗り合わせてお越しください！ 一人や二人だけど車がない場合、その旨お知らせください。空きスペースがあるかもしれません。
・電車で来られる場合は、ＪＲ下呂駅に３時３０分と５時に迎えに行きます。これらに間に合わない場合は、下呂駅から各自交通手段を確保してください。車での行き方は、後ほど連絡します。下呂駅への到着時間は、参照１５時１５分１６時５４分となります。（http://www.hyperdia.com/）

・宿泊客は帰る前にロッジを掃除することになっています。全員で一斉にやれば、すぐおわります！ 掃除場所については、当番表を用意します。立つ鳥跡を濁さずです。
・畳部屋では、飲食禁止です。１階のキッチン、メインホール、もしくは外で飲食してください。畳部屋は就寝用です。既に就寝している人の邪魔にならないようにしてください。
・管内禁煙です。
・スピーカーを用意しますので、かけたい音楽があれば、iポッド等をお持ちください。
・シャワー用の洗面用具等をお持ちください。
・貴重品は各自で管理してください。いろいろな国籍の人がいますが、常識をあまりに逸脱した行為を行った人がいた場合は、AJETに連絡ください。

EVENT!: the 2008 Gifu AJET Sayonara Party, July 5th-6th
Hey everybody, the details have been finalized for the 2008 Gifu AJET Sayonara Party. This is one of the major events of the year, our annual summer blowout event. It's always a great time as 80+ people enjoy the weekend. Come for one final party with your friends to hang out and toast this year goodbye and welcome the next!
WHEN: Sat July 5 (17:00) to Sun July 6 (12:00, noon)
WHERE: Fureai no Yakata Kashimo, that big, beautiful, wonderful wooden lodge in Kashimo
COST: 4500yen

ALL THE DETAILS:
THE PLAN:
The Sayonara Party is held at Fureai no Yakata Kashimo, the same lodge as the Winter Camp. It's a casual party to hang out with friends so feel free to do whatever like throughout the evening. There's a small river beside the lodge you can splash and float in and plenty of room inside and outside to chat and play games. People are also free and encouraged to explore the area Saturday before the party or Sunday after. Plus, there is a free battle of the bands right across the street on Sunday afternoon!
FOOD & DRINK:
Nomihodai draft beer, cocktails, and soft drinks will be available on arrival. Supper will be served around 7:30. It's tabehodai curry (including veg) and salad and snacks. Sunday breakfast will be fruit, cereal, juices, etc.
TRANSPORTATION:
CAR
***We highly encourage you to drive and carpool.*** There's plenty of free parking at the lodge. It's more fun and it saves money for everyone.
TRAIN
***We have limited space for pickups. The first RSVP requests get the first seats. We hope to recruit more drivers to help but we cannot guarantee more than ~12 seats for each pickup time.***
Pickup times are 15:30 and 17:00. If you do not secure a seat by RSVPing early or cannot make those times, you must find your own ride to the lodge or arrange your own pickup.
Driving directions will come in a later email.
Train arrival times in Gero from the South are 15:15 and 16:54. (see http://www.hyperdia.com/ to personalize your train times from your location, the station is GERO)

The lodge has 60 full bed sets. The RSVP limit is 85. Thus the futons are first come, first served. Even if you expect to arrive early, if you are able, please bring a sleeping bag if you can to help someone out. Snuggling up with a friend is also encouraged to save futons.
All guests are expected to help clean the cabin before leaving. When every one pitches in, it makes for quite easy work, especially if we help in other areas after finishing our own. There will be cleaning rosters posted around the lodge. Also, keep in mind that our mess is our cleaning.
Drinks and food are NOT allowed in the tatami rooms. Keep it all to the first floor kitchen, main hall, and outside. Tatami rooms are for sleeping only, no games or chatting. And please respect those already sleeping when you finally stumble into bed.
Smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas.
There will be speakers for music. Bring your iPod/music player if you like.
Don't forget bathing supplies if you plan to shower.
Please don't break anything. (>_<) But if it happens, please fess up to it. We've sadly had problems with this is the past and AJET has had to foot the bill...
Please be careful if there is rain forecast anywhere in the region. The river can flashflood.

Every year, the town gets a few complaints. The winter camp is generally not a problem since the cold weather keeps us all inside. With the summer heat, it is much nicer to be outside or have the doors and windows open. Noise carries all too well along the river that makes Kashimo so picturesque. We do not want to scare any one away; we too love a good party. But we ask that you be especially conscious of the noise and keep it to a minimum. It would be a shame and a huge loss if Gifu AJET is no longer able to use the Yakata Fureai Kashimo.
Finally, while this is a gathering of friends please be responsible for your possessions and your behavior. Don't leave valuables out where they can be damaged or taken or spilled on, and please respect those around you with your behavior and language.

THE PLAN:
The Sayonara Party is held at Fureai no Yakata Kashimo, the same lodge as the Winter Camp. It's a casual party to hang out with friends so feel free to do whatever like throughout the evening. There's a small river beside the lodge you can splash and float in and plenty of room inside and outside to chat and play games. People are also free and encouraged to explore the area Saturday before the party or Sunday after. Plus, there is a free battle of the bands right across the street on Sunday afternoon!
FOOD & DRINK:
Nomihodai draft beer, cocktails, and soft drinks will be available on arrival. Supper will be served around 7:30. It's tabehodai curry (including veg) and salad and snacks. Sunday breakfast will be fruit, cereal, juices, etc.
TRANSPORTATION:
CAR
***We highly encourage you to drive and carpool.*** There's plenty of free parking at the lodge. It's more fun and it saves money for everyone.
TRAIN
***We have limited space for pickups. The first RSVP requests get the first seats. We hope to recruit more drivers to help but we cannot guarantee more than ~12 seats for each pickup time.***
Pickup times are 15:30 and 17:00. If you do not secure a seat by RSVPing early or cannot make those times, you must find your own ride to the lodge or arrange your own pickup.
Driving directions will come in a later email.
Train arrival times in Gero from the South are 15:15 and 16:54. (see http://www.hyperdia.com/ to personalize your train times from your location, the station is GERO)

Hey everybody,
I'm just writing to remind you that you all signed up for cormorant fishing this Saturday, June 21, 2008!
If you cannot come, please let me know by this Wednesday. Here are the details:
Place: Cormorant Fishing Viewing Boat Office (base of Nagara Bridge near Gifu Park)
Time: 5:30pm~9:30pm
Cost: 2900 yen (yes, the cost has been lowered)
Please be sure to arrive at the Viewing Boat Office by 5:30 so our boat can leave on time.
If you do not know how to get there, Matsunami will be meeting a group of people at JR Gifu Station at 4:30 and bring them to cormorant fishing.
If you will be meeting Matsunami, please e-mail me so he knows how many people to be expecting.

Mark your calendars now so you don't miss out: the Gifu AJET Sayonara Party is Sat July 5th and Sun July 6th at the wonderful Fureai no Yokata Kashimo lodge!
This annual summer blowout is one of the major AJET events of the year. 75+ people come for a relaxing weekend of eating, chatting, drinking, and gaming. It's a laidback final gathering with friends for those leaving Japan, and both a farewell and kickoff for those staying on JET the next year.
Final details will be out soon.
As always anyone and everyone is welcome so pass the word!

We'll be renting a boat and taking it out on the river.Before cormorant fishing starts, we can enjoy the sunset while eating dinner, drinking beer and shooting off fireworks. Once the sun sets, cormorant fishing will begin and we'll be able to get an up-close look at the age-old tradition.

岐阜市の国際交流員でもあるダグ君が、市内の文化・歴史で有名な場所を紹介します！
（彼は日本語うまいです！ そして日本文化に詳しいです！）
意外とマーナーなポイントにいくようです！
岐阜は鵜飼、岐阜城と花火だけではありませんよ～！笑
今回は、主に寺や神社を攻めていきます！
「外観は似てるかもしれないけど、それぞれに歴史や秘密があったりして、面白いよ！」

It's that time of year again! AJET is sponsoring a cultural/historical bike tour of Gifu City. This tour will take you to some of the lesser known sites in the city, giving you the opportunity to discover that there is more to the area than cormorant fishing, Gifu Castle and fireworks.
This year's tour will focus on shrines and temples in the area. Sure, alot of them seem exactly the same, but it starts to get interesting when you realize that some shrines sleep around, some temples were stolen, and they all have little secrets.
What: Gifu City Bike Tour
When: 12:00pm~2:00pm, May 24, 2008 (Saturday)
Where: Meet at Vie de France (JR Gifu Station)
Cost: FREE* (temples and shrines are free to enter)
*If you need to rent a bike, it will cost 100yen for the day. You can rent bikes at JR Gifu Station, though, so don't hesitate to participate.

Gifu AJETは、Aichi AJETと合同で、
３月２９日（土）と４月５日（土）に、鶴舞公園で花見を行いました！
３月２９日は、愛知メンバーを中心として５０人以上、
４月５日は、岐阜からもたくさんの人に来ていただいて、
おそらく延べ１００人を超えました！
初めての人も多かったと思いますが、来ていただいてありがとうございました！
２９日も５日も、桜が素晴らしくきれいでした！
公園も人がいっぱいで、みんな幸せそうで、まさに春が来たって感じですね！
個人的にも、久しぶりに会う人も多く、
１２時から夜まで、とても楽しい時間を過ごせました！
愛知のロイとダン、
２回とも朝５時に起きて場所を確保してくれて、ありがとう
４月ですね！ 新しいスタートですね！
気分一新、頑張っていきましょう！

暖かくなって、すっかり春らしくなりましたね！
というわけで、春のAJETイベントのお知らせです！
今回は、３月と４月を一気にお送りします！
イベントはもちろん、毎年恒例・Aichi＋Gifu AJET「花見@鶴舞公園」です！
今年はなんと、「3月29日(土)」と「4月5日(土)」の２回行います！
参加費０円、申し込みも不要です！
自分が飲食したいものを各自持参してください(BBQグリルはありません)！

暖かくなって、すっかり春らしくなりましたね！
というわけで、春のAJETイベントのお知らせです！
今回は、３月と４月を一気にお送りします！
イベントはもちろん、毎年恒例・Aichi＋Gifu AJET「花見@鶴舞公園」です！
今年はなんと、「3月29日(土)」と「4月5日(土)」の２回行います！
参加費０円、申し込みも不要です！
自分が飲食したいものを各自持参してください(BBQグリルはありません)！
時間は12時から夕方まで！ この間の都合のいい時間にお越しください！

Hanami! March 29th and April 5th!!
Hey Gifunians,
The annual Aichi Hanami party in the gorgeous tsurumai park is BOTH Saturday March 29th (Round 1)and Saturday April 5th (Round 2)!
GifuAJET has made this event part of our annual calendar and we hope tons of people can make it out yet again.
AichiAJET will have tarps marked out and the party starts from 12.
It's BYOEverything (no grills allowed in the park).
Even if you can't stay long, come down to check out Tsurumai park during hanami since it's one of the largest gatherings in Aichi. It's amazing.
And if you can stay longer, bond with friends across borders by drinking under the pink petals.

お疲れ様です！
Gifu AJETは、２月２３日（土）に、スシナイトを行いました！岐阜市でも雪が降って、とても寒い日でしたが、
２５人の方に来て頂きました！
開始前に、千成寿司の常連でありＡＪＥＴメンバーのアダムから、
寿司の起源等についての話がありました！
寿司は中国から来た？ えぇ～そんなこと知りませんでした！
勉強になりました！
そして寿司の中身は・・・

２・２３（土）スシナイト！
おつかれさまです！
地球温暖化とはいうものの、冬はやっぱり寒いですね！
というわけでお待たせしました！
２月のGifu AJETのイベントは、「スシナイト」！
世界に誇る日本料理である「寿司」を、世界各国の人々と一緒に、
ゆっくりまったり優雅に美味しく食べましょう！
今回のイベントの店として選んだのは、
岐阜で最も有名な寿司屋の一つである、「千成寿司」！
ネタが産地直送で新鮮＆豊富、そして大きいことが特徴です！
今回は、AJETメンバー中ナンバー１かつオンリー１の寿司通であり、
千成寿司の常連でもあるアダム君と、
熟練した職人方との綿密な打ち合わせのうえ、
特別コースとして提供させていただきます！
参加していただいた方は、店を後にする時に間違いなくこうつぶやくでしょう！

レポート・加子母冬キャンプ２００８
おつかれさまです！
Gifu AJET（ギフ・エージェット）は、１月２５日（金）夜～１月２７日（日）昼に、
冬キャンプ2008を行いました！
今回は、参加者７５人～（日本人は１５人ほど）！
場所は、岐阜県中津川市加子母村の「ふれあいのやかた・かしも」です！
メインは２６日（土）で、スキー／スノボ組は「アルコピア」、
温泉組は「下呂温泉」に行ってきました！
順番にレポートしていきます！
そしてそのあと、感想等を書きます！
時間・興味があれば、どうぞよろしくお願いします！
（１）２５日（金）夜
２５日（金）の夜に、電車や車などで、それぞれ中津川市加子母村の「ふれあいのやかた・かしも」に集まり、
早く到着した人で、夕食が済んでいない人は、近くの焼肉屋で夕食をとりました。
２３時半頃から、焼肉に行った人たちがロッジに戻ってきて合流して、前夜祭？が始まりました。
といっても、飲む・話す・ゲーム・などなど、各々好きなことをやる感じです。
中には、５～６時頃まで飲んでいた人がいたようです。
（２）２６日（土）
２６日は、１）スキー／スノボ組（車・バス）、２）温泉組に分かれて行動します。
そしてロッジに戻って、３）夕食とパーティ、という流れです。
１）スキー／スノボ
車組は、好きな時間に起きて、各自スキー場に行き、
好きな時間から始め、好きな時間に帰ってきます。
バス組は、９時にロッジを出発し、途中で下呂駅に立ち寄り、
１０時半頃にスキー場に着きました。
こうして午前中には、５０人ほどがゲレンデに到着。
スキー場は天気もよく、斜面の状態もよく、最高の１日でした！
大きなけがもなかったです！
そして１７時近くまで滑って、帰りに下呂市内の露天風呂「クアガーデン」に行きました。
温泉でゆっくり癒されました！
２）温泉
下呂温泉組は、午前中は遅くまで寝たり、ゆっくりとロッジで過ごしたりした後、
車で下呂市街まで移動しました。
下呂市内を散策し、市街の真ん中にある、
川沿いの露天風呂に入りました。
（ご存じの方も多いと思いますが、屋外の、橋の上からでも見えるやつです。）
みんな気持ちよかったと言っていました！
その他にも、市街を散策したり、別の温泉に入ったりして、まったりと１日を過ごしました。
３）夕食とパーティ
２０時頃になって、それぞれが再度ロッジに集合し、夕食が始まりました。
メニューは、トマトパスタとサラダです。
下呂温泉組に行ったＡＪＥＴメンバーが、早く帰ってきて、作りました。
おいしかったです！
そしてそのまま、パーティになだれ込みます。
ビールやカクテルを飲んだり、スナックを食べたり、いろんな人と話したり、
カードゲームをしたり、踊ったり、ギターやピアノを弾いたり、
いろんなことをしながら、楽しんでいました！
こうしてパーティは、夜遅くまで（一部では朝方まで！）続きました！
（３）２７日（日）
２７日は、９時頃から順次起きて、朝食をとり、ロッジの掃除を始めます。
当番表どおりに、布団の片づけ、床掃除、台所、ホール、トイレなど、
全員で協力して掃除します。
そして全ての後かたづけが１１時頃までに終わり、
下呂駅から帰る人たちを車で送って、ゴミを持ち帰って、解散しました。
今年も大成功でした！
（４）まとめ
冬のキャンプを加子母村で行うのも、今回で３年目になりますし、
過去の蓄積と、メンバー連携が素晴らしくうまくいったおかげで、
手際よく、全てスムーズに進みました！
やっぱり宿泊イベントはいいです！
飲み会や忘年会と違い、１泊以上のイベントとなると、
日本人の皆さんは、なかなか都合をつけるのが難しいと思いますが、
何とか都合をつけてでも、来る価値があると思います。
イベント参加料も、限界まで下げているので、経済的です。
最近よく、「外国人から見た日本」的なテレビ番組をやっていますよね？
教育番組ならまだしも、ゴールデンタイムでこういった番組が成り立つなんて、
一昔前ではありえなかったことで、今の「国際化」のスピードは尋常ではありません。
このことについて、善悪功罪色々議論はあると思いますが、
インターネットがある限り、この流れは止まりません。
だからこそ、「流れ」に乗ることに意味があります。
「外国人から見た日本」的な番組でやっている内容を、
傍観者としての立場からだけではなく、是非肌で体験してみましょう！
そのために、インターネットやＳＮＳでのつながりがあるんです。
日本では「ＫＹ」が大事ですが、
世界に向けては、ある程度の自己主張が大事です。
宗教思想信条など、一人一人バックグラウンドが異なるので、
いくら空気を読もうとしても、その前提が違っているんです。
（今は日本人同士でも色々なバックグラウンドの人がいる（※厳密に言うと、実際元々いろんな人がいたところが、ＩＴが発達したことによって、自分と「違う」集団に属している人と、簡単に接することができるようになった）ので、相手に「読んでもらう」ことを過度に期待するのは危険だと思いますが、どうでしょうか。）
以前からの繰り返しになりますが、
ＡＪＥＴイベントで、英語を話すことは参加条件ではありません。
（自分も、５年前は全く話せていませんでした。）
逆に今は、日本語や日本文化を、世界に積極的に伝えていく時代になりました。
そして最近やっと、こういうことを「建前」ではなく、
時代の空気として、実感を伴って受け取ってもらえるようになりました。
日本にいる外国人も、多くの人が、そのことを学びたいから日本にいるのであり、
実際、日本語を話せる外国人も、一昔前より格段に増えています。
（インターネットによる学習支援情報・手法の整理・確立と、日本のイメージアップが、
そういう結果につながっているんでしょう。）
ご存じの通り、今は世界情勢がめまぐるしく変わり、
一昔前は欧米一極優位だったものが、
今は多極化して、色々なものの価値が相対的になってきています。
たとえば「価値の相対化」について、「漢字Ｔシャツ」や「漢字タトゥー」を例にとると、
日本人的に「それはないない！」と突っ込みたくなるようなものでも、
本人たちにとっては決してネタではなく、
本気でかっこいいと思ってやっていることが多いです。
中にはそこまでわかってあえてやっている人もいますが、多くはないです。
（逆に、自分がかっこいいと思って着ている外国語Ｔシャツに、
ありえないような意味・ニュアンスが含まれていたりすることがまれにあるので、
実は注意が必要です。
わかっていてあえてやるのなら、逆にかっこいいですけど。笑）
最近では、ＭＴＶなんかを見ていても、世界の一流アーティストのプロモ映像に、
日本語や、日本に関わる映像が出てきたりします。
そんな中で、たとえばものすごい勢いで字を間違ってたり、
そこまで行かなくても、日本人から見てお世辞にもクールとは言えないものも、
実際たくさんあります。（カタカナでバーン！と「ガンバレ」と出てきたり。）
日本人から見て、英語の中身がよく分かっていなくても、
何となくかっこいいというイメージがあるように、
外国人からすれば、日本文化はかっこよく映り、
その独自性が評価され、注目されているんです。
それは、伝統文化にとどまらず、ファッション、アニメ他、あらゆることに及びます。
そして、海外から日本に取り入れたあらゆるものが「日本的」にアレンジされ、
そのアレンジされたものが、日本的な色彩を帯びた独自のものに洗練される「洗練度合いの高さ」も、
評価の対象になっています。
この洗練する過程が、「空気が読める」日本人の得意技でもあるといえます。
国内では、日本には将来がないだとか、暗い話題が先行していますが、
日本の文化レベルの高さ・奥深さは、世界から相当の注目を浴びています。
そこにいる自分たちを、もっと誇りに思っていいと思います。
自信を持つことが、対外的にはかっこいいと思いますし、
そう思うことで、結果的によりよく見えると思います！
一方、上記のように日本文化が世界で高く評価されているにもかかわらず、
「英語」は、グローバル化した世界の共通語として、
文化的な意味はさておき、ツールとしての重要性を増してきており、
海外と関わるビジネスでは、今や必須になっています。
仕事でも何でも、そういうことが「必要な人」にも、是非来てほしいです。
英会話スクール等々で基礎を作って、
ＡＪＥＴのような場を活用すれば、大変効果的です。
義務教育をそれなりにしっかり受けた人なら、
それを思い出すイメージで、恥ずかしがらず、間違いを恐れずに使うだけです。
スクールなどで、最低でも連絡先の聞き方などを覚えておけば、
それからは自分次第で何とかなります。
個人的に仲良くなれば、遊びに誘われたりもするでしょう。
自分たちは、そういう場を「継続して提供すること」に意味があると思っているからこそ、
２年くらい前から、イベント月１ペースを目標にして、やっています。
ただし、自分たちも、ボランティア（＝有限な時間と労力の無償提供）でやっている以上、
プロモーション活動やマッチングサポートには限界があるので、
ＡＪＥＴ側から何か「してもらう」ことに過度に期待せず、
こういう機会をとらえて、自分から積極的に来ていただきたいと思います。
仕切りも、日本人的な感覚では、「行き届いていない」ところが多々あるだろうと思いますが、
自分たちの場合、「過度に仕切らない」ことに意味があると思っていますし、
いろんな国の人を同時に相手にする以上、そうすることによって成り立っており、
ここまで広がってきた側面があります。
最初は「カルチャーショック」を感じる人もいるかもしれませんが、
是非それを楽しんでください。
（英会話がしたいだけでしたら、英会話スクールでいいんです！）
「ここは日本だから、日本のやり方でやるべきだ」という意見もごもっともです。
ついさっき、日本を世界に伝えていく時代になった、と言ったばかりです。笑
ですから、その辺りのバランスは、こちらとしても毎回考え悩み、
試行錯誤しながらやっているところです。
企画側としては、その過程は、色々な「空気を読む」ことの勉強になります。
要するに、目の前にこんないい機会があるのに、もったいない！
興味があったら、遠慮しないで、一歩踏み出して来てほしい！ということです。
長々とまとまらない文章でしたが、言いたいことはわかっていただけるだろうと思います！

その他にも、市街を散策したり、別の温泉に入ったりして、まったりと１日を過ごしました。
３）夕食とパーティ
２０時頃になって、それぞれが再度ロッジに集合し、夕食が始まりました。
メニューは、トマトパスタとサラダです。
下呂温泉組に行ったＡＪＥＴメンバーが、早く帰ってきて、作りました。
おいしかったです！
そしてそのまま、パーティになだれ込みます。
ビールやカクテルを飲んだり、スナックを食べたり、いろんな人と話したり、
カードゲームをしたり、踊ったり、ギターやピアノを弾いたり、
いろんなことをしながら、楽しんでいました！
こうしてパーティは、夜遅くまで（一部では朝方まで！）続きました！
（３）２７日（日）
２７日は、９時頃から順次起きて、朝食をとり、ロッジの掃除を始めます。
当番表どおりに、布団の片づけ、床掃除、台所、ホール、トイレなど、
全員で協力して掃除します。
そして全ての後かたづけが１１時頃までに終わり、
下呂駅から帰る人たちを車で送って、ゴミを持ち帰って、解散しました。
今年も大成功でした！
（４）まとめ
冬のキャンプを加子母村で行うのも、今回で３年目になりますし、
過去の蓄積と、メンバー連携が素晴らしくうまくいったおかげで、
手際よく、全てスムーズに進みました！
やっぱり宿泊イベントはいいです！
飲み会や忘年会と違い、１泊以上のイベントとなると、
日本人の皆さんは、なかなか都合をつけるのが難しいと思いますが、
何とか都合をつけてでも、来る価値があると思います。
イベント参加料も、限界まで下げているので、経済的です。
最近よく、「外国人から見た日本」的なテレビ番組をやっていますよね？
教育番組ならまだしも、ゴールデンタイムでこういった番組が成り立つなんて、
一昔前ではありえなかったことで、今の「国際化」のスピードは尋常ではありません。
このことについて、善悪功罪色々議論はあると思いますが、
インターネットがある限り、この流れは止まりません。
だからこそ、「流れ」に乗ることに意味があります。
「外国人から見た日本」的な番組でやっている内容を、
傍観者としての立場からだけではなく、是非肌で体験してみましょう！
そのために、インターネットやＳＮＳでのつながりがあるんです。
日本では「ＫＹ」が大事ですが、
世界に向けては、ある程度の自己主張が大事です。
宗教思想信条など、一人一人バックグラウンドが異なるので、
いくら空気を読もうとしても、その前提が違っているんです。
（今は日本人同士でも色々なバックグラウンドの人がいる（※厳密に言うと、実際元々いろんな人がいたところが、ＩＴが発達したことによって、自分と「違う」集団に属している人と、簡単に接することができるようになった）ので、相手に「読んでもらう」ことを過度に期待するのは危険だと思いますが、どうでしょうか。）
以前からの繰り返しになりますが、
ＡＪＥＴイベントで、英語を話すことは参加条件ではありません。
（自分も、５年前は全く話せていませんでした。）
逆に今は、日本語や日本文化を、世界に積極的に伝えていく時代になりました。
そして最近やっと、こういうことを「建前」ではなく、
時代の空気として、実感を伴って受け取ってもらえるようになりました。
日本にいる外国人も、多くの人が、そのことを学びたいから日本にいるのであり、
実際、日本語を話せる外国人も、一昔前より格段に増えています。
（インターネットによる学習支援情報・手法の整理・確立と、日本のイメージアップが、
そういう結果につながっているんでしょう。）
ご存じの通り、今は世界情勢がめまぐるしく変わり、
一昔前は欧米一極優位だったものが、
今は多極化して、色々なものの価値が相対的になってきています。
たとえば「価値の相対化」について、「漢字Ｔシャツ」や「漢字タトゥー」を例にとると、
日本人的に「それはないない！」と突っ込みたくなるようなものでも、
本人たちにとっては決してネタではなく、
本気でかっこいいと思ってやっていることが多いです。
中にはそこまでわかってあえてやっている人もいますが、多くはないです。
（逆に、自分がかっこいいと思って着ている外国語Ｔシャツに、
ありえないような意味・ニュアンスが含まれていたりすることがまれにあるので、
実は注意が必要です。
わかっていてあえてやるのなら、逆にかっこいいですけど。笑）
最近では、ＭＴＶなんかを見ていても、世界の一流アーティストのプロモ映像に、
日本語や、日本に関わる映像が出てきたりします。
そんな中で、たとえばものすごい勢いで字を間違ってたり、
そこまで行かなくても、日本人から見てお世辞にもクールとは言えないものも、
実際たくさんあります。（カタカナでバーン！と「ガンバレ」と出てきたり。）
日本人から見て、英語の中身がよく分かっていなくても、
何となくかっこいいというイメージがあるように、
外国人からすれば、日本文化はかっこよく映り、
その独自性が評価され、注目されているんです。
それは、伝統文化にとどまらず、ファッション、アニメ他、あらゆることに及びます。
そして、海外から日本に取り入れたあらゆるものが「日本的」にアレンジされ、
そのアレンジされたものが、日本的な色彩を帯びた独自のものに洗練される「洗練度合いの高さ」も、
評価の対象になっています。
この洗練する過程が、「空気が読める」日本人の得意技でもあるといえます。
国内では、日本には将来がないだとか、暗い話題が先行していますが、
日本の文化レベルの高さ・奥深さは、世界から相当の注目を浴びています。
そこにいる自分たちを、もっと誇りに思っていいと思います。
自信を持つことが、対外的にはかっこいいと思いますし、
そう思うことで、結果的によりよく見えると思います！
一方、上記のように日本文化が世界で高く評価されているにもかかわらず、
「英語」は、グローバル化した世界の共通語として、
文化的な意味はさておき、ツールとしての重要性を増してきており、
海外と関わるビジネスでは、今や必須になっています。
仕事でも何でも、そういうことが「必要な人」にも、是非来てほしいです。
英会話スクール等々で基礎を作って、
ＡＪＥＴのような場を活用すれば、大変効果的です。
義務教育をそれなりにしっかり受けた人なら、
それを思い出すイメージで、恥ずかしがらず、間違いを恐れずに使うだけです。
スクールなどで、最低でも連絡先の聞き方などを覚えておけば、
それからは自分次第で何とかなります。
個人的に仲良くなれば、遊びに誘われたりもするでしょう。
自分たちは、そういう場を「継続して提供すること」に意味があると思っているからこそ、
２年くらい前から、イベント月１ペースを目標にして、やっています。
ただし、自分たちも、ボランティア（＝有限な時間と労力の無償提供）でやっている以上、
プロモーション活動やマッチングサポートには限界があるので、
ＡＪＥＴ側から何か「してもらう」ことに過度に期待せず、
こういう機会をとらえて、自分から積極的に来ていただきたいと思います。
仕切りも、日本人的な感覚では、「行き届いていない」ところが多々あるだろうと思いますが、
自分たちの場合、「過度に仕切らない」ことに意味があると思っていますし、
いろんな国の人を同時に相手にする以上、そうすることによって成り立っており、
ここまで広がってきた側面があります。
最初は「カルチャーショック」を感じる人もいるかもしれませんが、
是非それを楽しんでください。
（英会話がしたいだけでしたら、英会話スクールでいいんです！）
「ここは日本だから、日本のやり方でやるべきだ」という意見もごもっともです。
ついさっき、日本を世界に伝えていく時代になった、と言ったばかりです。笑
ですから、その辺りのバランスは、こちらとしても毎回考え悩み、
試行錯誤しながらやっているところです。
企画側としては、その過程は、色々な「空気を読む」ことの勉強になります。
要するに、目の前にこんないい機会があるのに、もったいない！
興味があったら、遠慮しないで、一歩踏み出して来てほしい！ということです。
長々とまとまらない文章でしたが、言いたいことはわかっていただけるだろうと思います！

Thank You!
AJET would like to thank everyone who came to the Winter Camp. Everyone had an amazing time the whole weekend, on the mountain, at the onsen, and in the lodge. We are especially thankful for your patience with transportation and accomodation, and to all the people who helped out by shuttling people and/or bringing extra bedding. We had nary a hitch despite it being our biggest event of the year.

今年もやってきました、「ＡＪＥＴ冬キャンプ２００８」のお知らせです！
大人気のこのイベント、去年は世界各国から参加者約７０人も来ていただきました！

ロッジからアルコピアへ、貸し切りバスで行きます！ バスは９時にロッジを出発し、下呂駅に９時４０分頃に立ち寄り、午前中にアルコピアに到着の予定です。アルコピアからの帰りに、下呂の温泉で入浴した後、ロッジで夕食とパーティをします！

リフト半日券： ２，８００円（バスで行く場合）
リフト１日券： ３，５００円
レンタルスキーセット（スキー、ブーツ、ストック）： ３，０００円

（３）ロッジでまったり
ＤＶＤ、ＣＤ、本、ゲーム等を持ち込んで、暖かいロッジでまったりと週末を過ごしましょう！美しい山村風景を眺めて癒されたりもできます！
【交通手段】
○金曜到着の場合：
車の方は、ロッジに午後六時以降にお越しください。駐車場あります。
電車の場合は、ロッジからＪＲ下呂駅まで、８時４５分か１０時４０分に迎えに行きます。到着予定時間をお知らせください。

Ski Trip & Winter Camp 2008 (Jan 25/26/27)
Let's play snowboarding! Let's onsening! Yea Gifu mountains!
Welcome back and Happy New Year! As promised, here's the information about Winter Camp 2007, brought to you by Gifu AJET. This is one of our big annual events. We tear up the slopes, soak in the onsen, and rock a pasta supper and nomihoudai party in the lodge. As always, anyone and everyone is welcome, so spread the word and spread the love. Last year we had a blast with a great mix of JETs and Japanese, and even had JETs in from several other prefectures.
There is TONS of important information in this email. Please read it all carefully to the end, **then copy, paste, and fill-in completely the RSVP from the bottom**:
THE VENUE
We have reserved the Fureai No Yakata Kashimo, a huge beautiful wood lodge located in Kashimo Village, about 20 minutes south of Gero, an area famous for its forestry. The lodge is heated and boasts 4 spacious tatami rooms upstairs for sleeping and 2 cavernous rooms downstairs for more gregarious activities. In true Japanese style, we will be responsible for cleaning the lodge before we leave on Sunday. GIFU AJET will make a roster of cleaning assignments. THE ACTIVITIES
Take your pick from any of the following for Saturday January 26th:
1. SKI/SNOWBOARD AT HIDA FUNAYAMA ARKOPIA
There will be a bus to transport you and your gear from the lodge to Arkopia and back again. The bus will leave the lodge at 9:00 and arrive at the slopes about 10:30. The bus will also stop at an onsen on the return trip, so we'll all will be fresh and clean for dinner and drinks back at the lodge. If you are driving/carpooling, feel free to hit slopes whenever you like. Lifts are open 8-4:50.
**The cost of lift passes and rentals are NOT included in the cost of the camp. You must bring your own, or rent them at the slopes.**
1/2 Day Lift Pass (from 12): 2800 yen
Full Day Lift Pass (lifts start at 8): 3500 yen
Ski Set Rental (skis, boots & poles): 3000 yen
Snowboard Rental (boots & board): 4000 yen
Clothing Rental: 3000 yen
If you are interested in having ski or snowboard lessons, Arkopia offers lessons. The costs vary depending on the number of people participating, but should be around 3000 yen for a 2 hour lesson. These need to be booked in advance, so indicate if you'd like a lesson in the RSVP info below.
You can make your rentals on Saturday at the slopes. They have ski boots up to 30cm, and snowboard boots up to 32cm. You may want to call sometime in advance if you have monster gaijin feet and are concerned about availability 0577-52-2219.

2. GERO ONSEN DAY TRIP
Soak your weary bones in the famous onsens of Gero. The river is lined with a variety of natural onsens, most for about 500 yen (though there is a free co-ed open air onsen on the bank of the river by the bridge!) You can explore Gero at your leisure. Get some lunch, do some shopping, maybe even go to the Gassho Village Folklore Museum. Transportation will be arranged amongst drivers.
3. RELAX AT THE LODGE
Bring some DVDs, CDs, boardgames, and books and kick back with friends for the day inside the warm cozy lodge. Go outside and build a snowman (snow in Kashimo not guaranteed) and enjoy some down time around town and in the mountains. Ahh...

TRANSPORTATIONDRIVING/CARPOOLING:
We have transport to and from Gero station and the mountain, but we encourage you to drive/carpool to the lodge since it is MUCH cheaper than the trains and because the infrequent trains make picking up a lot of people on Friday night difficult. It also allows you to go to the mountain early if you want and/or explore however you want on Saturday.
FRI: please arrive at the lodge any time after 7:00 There is plenty of parking.
SAT: you can ride the bus to the slopes at 9:00, or drive if you would like to go earlier. We will need to arrange carpools amongst the drivers for Gero/onsen daytrippers.
**You can also arrive any time on Saturday.**
SUN: we need to leave the lodge by 12:00.(Directions will be included in a later email.)
TRAIN
Gero station is on the Takayama line which runs from Minokamo to Takayama. It is a 30min drive to the lodge from Gero station so we will provide a ride. There are very few local trains. There are more frequent express trains, but at a much higher cost. Please see http://www.hyperdia.com/ to plan your trip from you location. For reference: the local train from Gifu to Gero is 1620yen one way, a little over 2 hours. The "Hida Express" is 3280yen, a little over 1 hour.
FRI: there will be 2 pickup times, 8:45 or 10:40. This accomodates the local trains from both the North and South. Because of car space for pickup, we may have to balance the numbers if more people choose one time over the other.
SAT: the bus will leave for the slopes at 9:00. We will leave the slopes at 5:00, stop at the onsen, and then continue to the lodge. We will need to arrange Gero/onsen carpools for daytrippers.
**People arriving by train on Saturday can arrive at any time, but will need to
1. join an onsen excursion,
2. arrange your own transportation back to the lodge, or
3. possibly join the bus back to the lodge later that evening (7ish?)**.
SUN: we will give a ride back to Gero station for those taking the trains. We will leave the lodge at 11:00.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
The lodge has 60 full futon sets. The RSVP limit is up to 75 (we had 70 last year). Even if you expect to arrive early, if you can please bring a sleeping bag to help someone out. Snuggling up with a friend is also encouraged to save futons, and increase warmth.
We will be collecting payment at the Midterm Conference, and when you arrive at the lodge for non-ALTGifuJETs.
There will be speakers for music. Bring your iPod/music player if you like. Bring games, books, etc if you will be relaxing in the lodge on Saturday.
Don't forget ski equipment such as hat, gloves, goggles, sunscreen!, snowpants, etc.
Don't forget bathing supplies for the onsen and/or the lodge.

Welcome back and Happy New Year! As promised, here's the information about Winter Camp 2007, brought to you by Gifu AJET. This is one of our big annual events. We tear up the slopes, soak in the onsen, and rock a pasta supper and nomihoudai party in the lodge. As always, anyone and everyone is welcome, so spread the word and spread the love. Last year we had a blast with a great mix of JETs and Japanese, and even had JETs in from several other prefectures.
There is TONS of important information in this email. Please read it all carefully to the end, **then copy, paste, and fill-in completely the RSVP from the bottom**:
THE VENUE
We have reserved the Fureai No Yakata Kashimo, a huge beautiful wood lodge located in Kashimo Village, about 20 minutes south of Gero, an area famous for its forestry. The lodge is heated and boasts 4 spacious tatami rooms upstairs for sleeping and 2 cavernous rooms downstairs for more gregarious activities. In true Japanese style, we will be responsible for cleaning the lodge before we leave on Sunday. GIFU AJET will make a roster of cleaning assignments. THE ACTIVITIES
Take your pick from any of the following for Saturday January 26th:
1. SKI/SNOWBOARD AT HIDA FUNAYAMA ARKOPIA
There will be a bus to transport you and your gear from the lodge to Arkopia and back again. The bus will leave the lodge at 9:00 and arrive at the slopes about 10:30. The bus will also stop at an onsen on the return trip, so we'll all will be fresh and clean for dinner and drinks back at the lodge. If you are driving/carpooling, feel free to hit slopes whenever you like. Lifts are open 8-4:50.
**The cost of lift passes and rentals are NOT included in the cost of the camp. You must bring your own, or rent them at the slopes.**
1/2 Day Lift Pass (from 12): 2800 yen
Full Day Lift Pass (lifts start at 8): 3500 yen
Ski Set Rental (skis, boots & poles): 3000 yen
Snowboard Rental (boots & board): 4000 yen
Clothing Rental: 3000 yen
If you are interested in having ski or snowboard lessons, Arkopia offers lessons. The costs vary depending on the number of people participating, but should be around 3000 yen for a 2 hour lesson. These need to be booked in advance, so indicate if you'd like a lesson in the RSVP info below.
You can make your rentals on Saturday at the slopes. They have ski boots up to 30cm, and snowboard boots up to 32cm. You may want to call sometime in advance if you have monster gaijin feet and are concerned about availability 0577-52-2219.

2. GERO ONSEN DAY TRIP
Soak your weary bones in the famous onsens of Gero. The river is lined with a variety of natural onsens, most for about 500 yen (though there is a free co-ed open air onsen on the bank of the river by the bridge!) You can explore Gero at your leisure. Get some lunch, do some shopping, maybe even go to the Gassho Village Folklore Museum. Transportation will be arranged amongst drivers.
3. RELAX AT THE LODGE
Bring some DVDs, CDs, boardgames, and books and kick back with friends for the day inside the warm cozy lodge. Go outside and build a snowman (snow in Kashimo not guaranteed) and enjoy some down time around town and in the mountains. Ahh...
COSTS AND WHAT YOU GET
Saturday Night Only - 5000yen per person

TRANSPORTATIONDRIVING/CARPOOLING:
We have transport to and from Gero station and the mountain, but we encourage you to drive/carpool to the lodge since it is MUCH cheaper than the trains and because the infrequent trains make picking up a lot of people on Friday night difficult. It also allows you to go to the mountain early if you want and/or explore however you want on Saturday.
FRI: please arrive at the lodge any time after 7:00 There is plenty of parking.
SAT: you can ride the bus to the slopes at 9:00, or drive if you would like to go earlier. We will need to arrange carpools amongst the drivers for Gero/onsen daytrippers.
**You can also arrive any time on Saturday.**
SUN: we need to leave the lodge by 12:00.(Directions will be included in a later email.)
TRAIN
Gero station is on the Takayama line which runs from Minokamo to Takayama. It is a 30min drive to the lodge from Gero station so we will provide a ride. There are very few local trains. There are more frequent express trains, but at a much higher cost. Please see http://www.hyperdia.com/ to plan your trip from you location. For reference: the local train from Gifu to Gero is 1620yen one way, a little over 2 hours. The "Hida Express" is 3280yen, a little over 1 hour.
FRI: there will be 2 pickup times, 8:45 or 10:40. This accomodates the local trains from both the North and South. Because of car space for pickup, we may have to balance the numbers if more people choose one time over the other.
SAT: the bus will leave for the slopes at 9:00. We will leave the slopes at 5:00, stop at the onsen, and then continue to the lodge. We will need to arrange Gero/onsen carpools for daytrippers.
**People arriving by train on Saturday can arrive at any time, but will need to
1. join an onsen excursion,
2. arrange your own transportation back to the lodge, or
3. possibly join the bus back to the lodge later that evening (7ish?)**.
SUN: we will give a ride back to Gero station for those taking the trains. We will leave the lodge at 11:00.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
The lodge has 60 full futon sets. The RSVP limit is up to 75 (we had 70 last year). Even if you expect to arrive early, if you can please bring a sleeping bag to help someone out. Snuggling up with a friend is also encouraged to save futons, and increase warmth.
We will be collecting payment at the Midterm Conference, and when you arrive at the lodge for non-ALTGifuJETs.
There will be speakers for music. Bring your iPod/music player if you like. Bring games, books, etc if you will be relaxing in the lodge on Saturday.
Don't forget ski equipment such as hat, gloves, goggles, sunscreen!, snowpants, etc.
Don't forget bathing supplies for the onsen and/or the lodge.
