Gｉｆｕ ＡＪＥＴ（ギフ・エージェット）冬キャンプを行います！
日程は、１月２５日（金）夜もしくは２６日（土）朝～２７日（朝）です！

このイベントも、Gifu AJET最大の一つで、そして例年大好評です！
スノボやスキーから、温泉、パーティまで、楽しいことがここにすべてあります！
２５日（金）の夜にロッジに泊まるか、26日（土）の朝にロッジに集合し、
２６日（土）は、以下からやることを選べます！
１）スキー／スノボ＠アルコピア
２）下呂温泉、市街めぐり
３）ロッジでまったり、または加子母村めぐり
このあと、全員でロッジに集合し、 夜まで食べ放題、飲み放題のパーティをします！

AJET winter camp coming soon!
Let's play snowboarding! Let's onsening! Yea Gifu mountains!
We've booked that wonderful mountain lodge in Kashimo again for the Gifu AJET Ski Trip & Winter Camp 2008. Mark your calendars now so you don't forget: January 25/26/27. Details and RSVPing are to come after the holidays.
This annual event is one of our biggest, and is arguably the best event of the year.
It offers everything from mountain sports, onsen relaxing, to party revelry.
After the midterm conference, we arrive Friday night for a cozy night's sleep (you can arrive any time Sat also), then on Sat you have some tempting choices of fun: ski/snowboard at the nearby Arkopia slopes; explore the town of Gero and its infamous hot springs; spend the day chilling at the lodge with friends; or explore the beautiful and quaint mountain town of Kashimo.
After a fun day, we regroup Sat night to party tabe/nomihodai-style before another cozy night's sleep.

This was a massive weekend.
The bounenkai was our highest attendance ever. 83 people came to toast the year.

It was an amazing event. There were 30(!)+ JETs alone who helped with the event by representing their countries, performing dances and music, volunteering helping hands, providing artwork, and being happy conversationalists for the ~350 guests who attended the event.

Many of the Japanese guests made sure to tell someone or reply on a survey that they were thrilled with the event, and to say that GYGA (and some government bigwigs in attendance) were pleased would be an understatement.

レポート： 大忘年会と世界ぎふ祭り
おつかれさまです！
１２月８日（土）に、Gifu AJET（ギフ・エージェット）大忘年会を行いました！
場所は、岐阜市内の居酒屋「のほほん」！
今年の参加者は、去年よりさらに１０人ほどふえて、８３人でした！
初めての人、久しぶりの人、レギュラーの人、 いろんな人に来ていただきました！
愛知や三重や関東方面からも、はるばる来てくれた方がいました！
部屋がちょっとせまかったですけど、みんな飲んで楽しんでいただきました！
カメラを持っていったんですけど、撮るのを忘れてました～ すいません！
毎回思うんですが、２時間はほんとに短いです！
でも、みなさんには楽しんでいただけました！
来ていただいた皆さん、本当にありがとうございましたーー！
そして１２月９日（日）は、 世界ぎふ祭り（ワールド・フェスティバル）でした！
１１時３０分から１６時まで、大垣市の大垣城ホールでやりました！
こっちは、岐阜県などに住む外国籍の方々や、異文化に興味を持つ日本人の多くの人々に協力を頂いて、
食べ物やダンスや文化の紹介をするイベントでした！ 本当に多くの人たちの協力のもとに、実施することができました！
こちらについては、一度ブログにも情報をアップしましたが、 ほぼそれっきりですいませんでした！
内部的な話をすると、初めての試みだったので、 プログラムの調整がギリギリまで非常に難航し、
ＰＲのフライヤーが１週間前にやっとできあがり、
ウェブサイトを作るまでは手が回らず、十分なＰＲができませんでした！
もっと早くにプログラム調整が済んで、十分なＰＲができれていれば、
もっともっとたくさんの人に来ていただけたに違いないと思います！
そのことがはっきり断言できるほど、内容的に非常に充実したイベントでした！
イベント運営は、いろいろな人々の協力を得て、大成功に終わりました！
次回、またやることがあれば、この経験を生かして、
たくさんの人にこの世界を味わっていただけたらなと思います！

Love Kids? Play Games!; Love Helping? Come Help!
Hey everybody,
As you've seen from many emails, the Gifu World Festival is next Sunday (official details to come!)
There are tons of people involved already (dancing, food, travel, art...) but we're looking for a few more.
1. We need some volunteers to run the kids games booths. We have 5 or 6 games from Bozo Bingo to glitter-glue Christmas cards that need some kid-loving volunteers to help with. We need help from 12:30 to 2:30 with the most action from 1:00 to 2:00.
2. We also simply need helping hands to setup the hall both Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th. Saturday is from 5:00 to 9:00. It's also the night of the bounenkai (send your RSVP in!), so we're combining the two! We'llfrom Ogaki station at 4:50 to walk to Ogaki castle hall for setup. Then everyone going to the bounenkai will leave together to go back for the bounenkai which starts at 7:30. We will also be doing setup Sunday morning from 9:00. The festival starts at 11:30. Helping with either or both is great.

Bounenkai & JLPT Otsukaresama Super Happy Fun Party, Dec.8th
Hey JETs, former JETs, friends, Japanese, other foreigners, and anyone else!
Mark you calendars now and RSVP for the Gifu AJET "Bounenkai & JLPT Otsukaresama Super Happy Fun Party" Saturday Dec. 8th!
The bounenkai (year-end party) is a Japanese cultural mainstay. Friends, family, and colleagues gather to welcome the new year afresh, and to celebrate the passing of the previous year. It's the perfect time to say otsukaresamadeshita to your friends before the holidays, catch up with old friends you haven't seen in a while, and to make new friends for the coming winter months. As the meritorious Matsunami-san says, we do this, "with lots of FOOD, DRINK, and SMILE!" This is also a congratulations party for those who took the JLPT. Come reward yourself to some relaxation, and maybe put some of the ol' Nihongo into practice.
We want this party to be a big one! We can have up to 80 people! Not only do we hope all you JETs can come, but we'd love love for any former JETs, Japanese, and non-JETs to join us. This party is a great chance to meet new friends; Matsunami will be inviting many Japanese again. As with every AJET event, anyone and everyone is welcome. Bring your friends, spread the word, and RSVP early.

After helping setup chairs, tables, and such, we will all ride the train to Gifu together to the enkai. And of course we wantto come to the festival on Sunday!

If something comes up after Wed, please find someone to replace you. Festival Mundial em Gifu, 9 de Dezembro
A Associação para União dos Jovens da Província de Gifu, estará
promovendo o evento anual "Festival Mundial em Gifu", que será
realizado no domingo dia 9 de Dezembro. Será uma tarde de música,
jogos, discursões, dança e comida para celebrar a interação dos
estrangeiros com os japoneses e a interação do Japão com o mundo.
Centenas de pessoas irão vir prestigiar tudo que estará sendo
oferecido.
AJET estará atuando em parceria neste evento e esperamos a sua
participação e envolvimento! Sua participação e envolvimento serão
outra forma de mostrar o intercâmbio internacional em Gifu.
Já temos várias idéias porém, estamos procurando por mais pessoas que
possam participar e ajudar de várias formas contribuindo para o
sucesso deste evento. ** Você não precisa ser um artista profissional
ou ter experiência na organização de eventos. Procuramos por pessoas
normais, que tenham vontade e que possam ajudar**
O evento será realizado no salão da Castelo de Ogaki – Ogaki Dai hall.
O local será dividido em palco para as performances e discursos e a
outra metade será dedicada para os stands para jogos, apresentação de
países, comida e etc. Nós gostaríamos de sua ajuda nos seguintes
ítens:
1. Performance/Exposição
--Você é cantor, dançarino etc? (sabe tocar taiko, dançar hip-hop,
artes marciais, tocar violão etc) Uma performance de 5 minutos será o
suficiente. Treine um pouquinho e venha se apresentar
--Você é um artista? (bonecas de papel, fotografia, desenho gráfico,
cerâmica, etc) Nós adoraríamos expor seus trabalhos, para que todos
possam apreciá-los.
2. Intercâmbio
--Você já fez a sua apresentação? Nós queremos apresentar tantos
países quanto sejam possíveis, mostrar várias fotos, artesanato e
cultura, e claro um cidadão de cada país! Quanto mais países melhor!!
--Você gosta de brincar com crianças? Nós adoraríamos apresentar os
jogos de seu país, assim como dee pessoas que ajudassem com as
crianças durante os jogos.
--Você gosta de cozinhar? Estamos procurando por várias receitas
internacionais fáceis e deliciosas de doces/pratos/bebidas para serem
servidos durante o festival. Nós precisamos de pessoas que possam
mostrar e/ou preparar a receita.
3. Organização
--Você gostaria de ajudar? Estamos precisando de voluntários para o
dia do evento para ajudar a arrumar o local antes e depois do evento,
ajudar nos stands e assim como ajuda durante o evento. Qualquer ajuda
a qualquer momento será bem vinda!!
--Estaremos realizando uma reunião pública na tarde do dia 18 de novembro.
4. Divulgação
--Existem muitos estrangeiros que residem na Província de Gifu. Vamos
repassar este e-mail para várias pessoas!!! Vamos mostrar a
diversidade existente em Gifu.
Participe do Festival Mundial de Gifu, que será realizado domingo

というわけで今年もやります、GifuAJET（ギフ・エージェット）大忘年会！
去年は７０以上が集まった、最大イベントのひとつです！
イベントに昔から来てる人、最近来るようになった人、
最近来れなくなった人、まだ来たことない人、 ど～んな人でも参加大歓迎です！

岐阜青年协议会将于12月9日，举办一年一度的国际节。
通过音乐、游戏、演讲、舞蹈和食物，外国人和日本人，日本人和世界的相互交流，大家将度过一个节庆的下午。届时将会有数百人参加，体验这次活动。
今年，AJET将作为合作者参加这项活动，我们期待大家的光临。
我们希望不仅是外语老师，而是有更多的人加入到这项活动中来。

现在已经聚齐了各种各样的构思，但为了使这项活动开展得更加成功，我们现在正在寻找能够提供帮助和参加的人。

这项活动，在大垣市的大垣城大厅举行，前半部分，进行表演和演讲，后半部分，我们准备了各种展台，分别进行游戏，各国的介绍，食物等等。

ワールド・フェスティバル！１２．９（日）
お疲れ様です！
「岐阜青年のつどい協議会」が、１２月９日（日）に、年に一度の「ワールド・フェスティバル」を開催します！
音楽、ゲーム、スピーチ、ダンス、そして食べ物を通して、
外国人の日本との相互交流、日本人の世界との相互交流をみんなで祝う午後となります。
何百人もの人たちが訪れ、イベントを体験します！
今年は、AJETがパートナーとしてこのイベントに参加し、そして皆さんの参加をお待ちしています！
外国語教師の人たちだけではなく、できるだけ多くの人たちに、このイベントにかかわっていただきたいと思っています！
あなたが手伝ったり、参加していただけることが、岐阜の国際交流それ自体を意味します！
今既に、様々なアイデアがそろっていますが、このイベントをよりよくするために、
あらゆる方面において、このイベントを手伝ったり、参加していただける人々をさがしています！
※このイベントには、プロのアーティストである必要や、卓越した技能をもっている必要はありません！ 「普通」の人で、喜んで貢献していただける人を探しています。
このイベントは、大垣の大ホール「大垣城ホール」で行われます。
その半分で、パフォーマンスやスピーチが行われ、
残り半分で、ゲームや国の紹介や食べ物などのブースが用意されます。
そこで、以下のことで、ぜひご参加いただきたいと考えています!
１．パフォーマンス／展示
※パフォーマー・・・ 太鼓奏者、ダンサー、空手家、ギタープレーヤー、等
それぞれ５分ほどです。練習の成果を、見せてください！

皆さんの作品を展示します。できるだけたくさんの作品を展示したいと思っています。

Festival del Mundo!!! 9 de diciembre
La Asociación Youth Gathering de Gifu se encuentra organizando su evento anual “Festival del Mundo”a celebrarse el día 9 de diciembre. Será una tarde de música, juegos,bailes y comidas para celebrar los lazos de amistad entre los extranjeros y Japón, y viceversa.
Cientos de personas vendrán y experimentarán todo lo que se ofrezca.
AJET está co-organizando el evento este aňo y esperamos que no solamente muchos JETs sino que también muchos otros extranjeros puedan venir y lo que es más importante participen activamente en el Festival. Nuestra participación será una demostración del intercambio internacional en Gifu.
Tenemos muchas ideas en mente, pero estamos buscando personas interesadas en participar y ayudar de varias maneras para hacer el evento mejor. No necesitamos artistas profesionales, estamos buscando gente común y corriente que sólo quiera colaborar con nosotros.
El evento se realizará en un gran salón en Ogaki, la mitad de la sala será destinada para las presentaciones y las demostraciones, y la otra mitad será ocupada por los distintos stands de juegos, presentaciones de países, comida,etc. Nos gustaria que nos pudieran ayudar con lo siguiente:
1. Demostraciones
--¿Eres un baterista de tambores japoneses, bailarín de hip-hop, practicante de artes marciales, guitarrista, etc?) Un show de 5 minutos es suficiente, pon tu talento a prueba y demuestra lo que sabes.
--¿Eres un artista? Puedes hacer muňecas de papel, tomar fotos, hacer diseňos gráficos, ceramica,etc? Nos encantaría exhibir tus trabajos para que todos puedan apreciarlos.
2. Intercambio
--¿Has hecho alguna vez una presentación de tu pais? Te gustaría hacer una? Queremos hacer stands de diferentes países con fotos, artículos, más una persona representante de cada país. ¡A más países, mejor!
--¿Te gusta jugar con niňos? Nos gustaría escuchar sobre los juegos que se juegan en tu país y la posibilidad de enseňarlos a los niňos que asistan al evento.
--¿Te gusta cocinar? Estamos buscando varios platos, dulces o bebidas internacionales, deliciosos y fáciles de preparar, Necesitamos alguien que pueda preparer la receta y pueda enseňar a otros como hacerla.
3. Organización
--¿Te gusta colaborar ? Necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar el día del evento, ya sea con el armado y administración de los stands , cualquier ayuda será apreciada. Si tienes alguna idea útil Habrá una reunión de coordinación el día 18 en la tarde.
4. Publicidad
--¿Tienes amigos? Hay tantos extranjeros en Gifu, que sólo tienes que pasales la voz . Nos gustaría representar la diversidad de culturas en Gifu.
5. Diversión
--Finalmente, ¡Ven a divertirte con tus amigos al Festival este 9 de Diciembre!

GYGA & AJET want YOU: Gifu World Festival, Dec
The Gifu Youth Gathering Association will be hosting it's annual "World Festival" Sunday December 9th.
It's an afternoon of music, games, speeches, dancing, and food to celebrate foreigners' interaction with Japan and Japan's interaction with the world. Hundreds of people will come to see and experience all that's offered.
AJET is partnering with the event this year and we hope you participate too!
We're hoping not only that many JETs (and any other foreigners who receive this!) will come for the event, but that many will also be involved with the event.
Your participation and help is yet another display of international exchange in Gifu.
We have a lot of material already lined up, but we're looking for more people to participate and help in a variety of ways to make the event even better.
**You don't have to be a professional artist or have expert experience organizing events. We're just looking for normal people, willing and able to contribute. **
The event will be held in a large hall in Ogaki.
One half will have a stage for performaces and speeches, and the other will be devoted to smaller booths for games, country introductions, food, etc.
We'd like you to help with:
1. Performance/Display
--Are you a performer? (taiko drummer, hip-hop dancer, martial artist, guitar player, etc) A 5min performance is plenty. Put that practice to use and show off a bit!
--Are you an artist? (paper dolls, photography, urushi, graphic design, pottery, etc) We'd love to display your work so many more can appreciate it.
2. Exchange
--Have you ever done a self-introduction? We want to represent as many countries as we can through a booth with pictures, items, and culture, and of course a citizen of each country. The more countries the better!
--Do you love playing with kids? We'd love your country's game ideas along with people to help run the games for the kids during the event
--Do you like to cook? We're looking for several easy and delicious international sweets/dishes/drinks to serve during the festival. We need someone who can make the recipe and/or show others how to.
3. Organization
--Do you have helping hands? We need volunteers for the day of the event to help with any of the setup, tear down, and helping run booths and such during the event. Any help at any time is appreciated.
--Do you have a helping mind? There's a public meeting the afternoon of the 18th
4. Outreach
--Got friends? Most people reading this are from English speaking countries. But there are MANY other foreigners living in Gifu. Please pass this email on, or just tell them about the event. We would like to represent the diveristy within Gifu.
5. Fun
--Are you a international wo/man of mystery? Come enjoy the Gifu World Festival Sunday December 9th! And bring your friends!

お疲れ様です!
今週土曜日(11月10日)に予定していたajet多治見・恵那・馬籠ツアーですが、誠に勝手ながら、キャンセルすることとなりました。
既に予約を頂いた方については、ご迷惑をおかけして、大変申し訳ありません。
今日時点で、最小催行人数に達しませんでした（３０人を予定していました）。
一同、心よりお詫び申し上げます。
原因は、ハイシーズンにもかかわらず、内部の日程調整が遅れたこと、
その結果、当初予定していた１８日（日）にバスが取れなかったこと、
白川郷ツアーの成功から、１週間でも集まるだろうと見込んだこと、あたりです。
今年は特に、早めに決めて連絡することを一つの目標としていたのですが、
やはりそれは必須条件だということが、再確認できました。

**Autumn Excursion Cancelled**
We sincerely regret to inform you that we will have to cancel the autumn excursion for Saturday.
We're sorry for any problems this causes your plans, and forthe disappointment of not seeing the beauty in Tono.
The bus was only half full and we needed quite a few more people to recoup the high cost.
We tried to quickly find another transportation option, but none are available.
The cancellation is our fault as we underestimated how busy the season would be and didn't get a bus reserved in time for our preferred date thus leaving us with only a week to announce the event and gather enough people.
Sorry again for having to cancel.
We hope you still get out and enjoy thegorgeous Japanese autumn though!
And we hope you'll be joining in more AJET events later, such as the bounenaki Dec 8th, and theGifu World Festival Dec 9th.

大好評だった白川郷どぶろく祭りツアーにつづき、バスツアーのお知らせです！
今回は、自然が美しい岐阜県東濃地方の、 「虎渓山永保寺」、「恵那峡」、「馬籠宿」へ行きます！

AJET Autumn Excursion, This Sat 10th
First, thanks to everyone who came to the enkai.
This Saturday is the AJET Aumtumn Excursion.
Fall is the most beautiful season in Japan (I think that's closer to fact than opinion). And Gifu has some of the best Fall foliage in Japan.
So what better way to view the blazing colors of Fall than with them framing an ancient Buddhist temple, lining the banks of a deep water gorge, or surrounding a traditional mountain village? Come enjoy kouyou (fall foliage viewing) with the AJET Autumn Excursion this Saturday November 10th!
Kouyou is gorgeous and is an extremely popular fall activity. (We're sorry for the short notice, but we barely found a bus!)
First we'll go to Eihoji temple in Tajimi. It's famous for it's well-tended grounds (especially it's maples and a 600yr old ginkgo) and a beautiful arched bridge. Then after lunch, we'll have an hour long tour on a party boat in Ena gorge, famous for it's Spring and Fall trees, and many unusual rock formations. We'll finish at Magome, a traditional mountain village on the border between Gifu and Nagano.

Building Communities India is an International Volunteer Project through AJET’s Go MAD. We are dedicated to providing the means and resources to build communities, both the physical structures and the support and compassion necessary for a community to thrive.
We are finishing construction of 45 family homes in a coastal village in southeast Andhra Pradesh, which was ravaged by the 2004 Asian Tsunami, and…WE NEED YOUR HELP.

PROFESA ( Professional Secretarial Academy ) is actively seeking international volunteers to help empower the people of Ghana aspiring to improve their own situation.
We have a clear vision but need your help to make this vision a reality.
We are now recruiting volunteers and Group Leaders for a Winter 2007-8 Volunteer Expedition (late December into early January).
PROFESA is an International Volunteer Project through AJET’s Go MAD.
We are a non-profit secretarial school that offers job training, education, and health information to students who have had to drop out of high school because they cannot afford school fees.
Our mission is to prepare Ghana’s young adults for careers as professional office assistants or secretaries.
PROFESA targets students who are unable to afford traditional high school fees and are thus forced to drop out of Senior Secondary School. These students often end up jobless or selling goods in the streets of Accra. By offering low tuition and quality education PROFESA gives these young adults an option for their future.

10.14 白川郷どぶろくツアーレポート
おつかれさまです！
１０月１４日（日）は、白川郷どぶろくツアーにいってきました！
朝８時半にJR岐阜駅に集合し、
大きな渋滞もなく順調に進み、約１１時に到着！
「どぶろく祭り」が始まって、 お酒が振舞われるのは３時半からのため、
それまでは自由に、白川郷一帯を散策しました。
合掌造りの集落を散策したり、
飛騨牛串焼き、五平もち、みたらしなどを食べたり、
工芸品やおみやげを見たり買ったりして、
世界遺産見学を、十分楽しんでいただきました！
「どぶろく振舞」が始まる３時半が近づくにつれて、
集落の一角にある神社に、人がだんだんと集まってきました。
中央広場では、着々と準備が始まり、
気がつくと、広場一帯が人で埋め尽くされていました。
３時頃から、「どぶろくの儀」が始まり、
村民たちが、様々な衣装を着て歩いたり、
獅子舞のデモンストレーションなどが行われました。
ひとしきり儀式が終わると、「どぶろくの振舞い」が始まりました。
村人が、やかんのようなものを持って、盃に次々とどぶろくを注いでいきます。
どぶろくは、アルコール度数１５～１６度ほどだそうです。
残念ながら、５時半に出発しなければならなかったため、
「夜更け」までいることはできませんでしたが、
みなさん、郷土芸能を見たり、祭りの屋台の食べ物を食べたり、
どぶろくをたくさん飲んだりして、楽しんでいました！
中には２０杯も飲んだ人がいたようです！
やっぱり祭りはいいですね！
今回は、バス利用が４０人、飛騨周辺に住む人たちが約１０人現地合流して、
５０人ほどに参加していただきました！
来ていただいた皆さん、ありがとうございました！
次は１１月２日（金）に、岐阜市にて秋の飲み会を行います！

「御神幸」の行列や笛や太鼓の音を響かせながら、
合掌集落の家並みや民家を練り歩きます。
３時半ごろから、この年に仕込まれた「どぶろく」が奉納され、
参拝者や遠来の客の一人ひとりに振舞われ、
村人と一緒に盃が交わされます。
また、奉芸殿（ステージ）では、春駒や民謡などの郷土芸能が披露され、
夜更けまで境内はにぎわいます。』
残念ながら、５時半に出発しなければならなかったため、
「夜更け」までいることはできませんでしたが、
みなさん、郷土芸能を見たり、祭りの屋台の食べ物を食べたり、
どぶろくをたくさん飲んだりして、楽しんでいました！

急遽バスでの移動に変更しました！
当初の定員３０人が４５人になり、人数が集まれば集まるほど安くなる（２，８００円まで）ようになりましたので、

ひとつ、白川郷は世界遺産。ふたつ、酒だ。
説明しておこうか。
ひとつめ。
白川郷は、旅行者が期待してやまない「伝統的な日本」だ。
道路上をまたぐ電線、景観を損なうコンクリート建造物の群れ、ネオンと騒音で感覚を奪われるかのようなパチンコ屋・・・
こういったものなしの日本に会いに行こうじゃないか。
白川郷は、神々しい谷間にひっそりたたずむ、かやぶき屋根の、小さな、美しい村だ。
まるで時間をさかのぼったかと錯覚するようだ。
祭りの中心から２０分歩くだけで、絵ハガキそのままの景観を目の当たりにできるのさ。
お前の国の家族のために歩いてみな。
絵ハガキそのままの、完ぺきな日本の写真をみせてやりなよ。
ふたつめ。
いまじゃなきゃ、一体いつ美しい日本の女性に酒をありったけふるまってもらえるってんだい？
やりかたは簡単。小さな赤い盃を４００円で買うだけさ。
２個買ってもいいんだぜ？ ここだけにしかないお土産だぜ。
ちっちゃなかわいい小箱付きときたもんだ。
そして祭りの空気を堪能しながら、寺の周りを歩いてみな。

Good news! We have secured a bus for our trip instead of vans.
This means we can accomodate up to 45 people (we've already surpassed the van space we had) and the price will drop from 3500 the more people we have (to 2800 if we fill the bus).

To summarize this amazing event, one of the most picturesque places in all of Japan hosts a giant drinking party, complete with entertainment.
Shirakawa-go village should not be missed, and this is the village at it's prime.

**Meet at VdF at 8:00. The bus will leave from the front of Pururu Plaza at 8:30 (just to the NW of the station).
**Leave Shirakawa-go at 6:00 and return about 8:30. Since people will be scattered all day, we request now: please meet at the bus on time to leave!
**Bring: comfy shoes, camera, jacket, money for food/sake bowl/souvenirs/etc.
A note from Gavin du Plessis, Hida resident, and lover of the doburoku:
"There are two reasons why people should absolutely go to the doburoku festival, so please forward this on. One, Shirakawa-go is a World Heritage site. Secondly, you drink the festival!
Shirakawa-go is the traditional Japan visitors expect. Experience a Japan without electric wires dangling across the roads, ugly concrete buildings blighting the landscape, and pachinko parlors assaulting your senses with neon and noise. Shirakawa-go is a small, clean village of thatched roofs nestled in a glorious valley. It's a step back in time. A twenty-minute walk from the main festival takes you to a postcard perfect lookout. You should walk it, if not for yourself, for the folks back home. Give them perfect postcard pics of Nihon.
Secondly, when else are you ever going to be served unlimited quantities of sake by beautiful maidens (or for the ladies, from the fire brigade)? It's this simple: you buy a small round red plate-cup thing (pardon the technical jargon) for 400yen. Hell, buy two. It's one-of-a-kind omiyage (it comes in a cute little box no less). Hang around in the temple yard enjoying the festivities and atmosphere. Then, the generous men and woman of this little town come out and serve you hand and foot as an honored guest. And, trust me, they aren't stingy; the booze lasts longer than you do. Also, this is doburoku! A sweet milky sake you're not going to come across often. I call it Oliver Twist booze because you'll hold your plate up high and ask again and again, "Please, sir. I want some more."
And as if that's not enough, there are onsens, karaoke, dancing, mock battles and ceremonial parades.
So in summary. You get treated like a feudal lord in ancient Japan. You could watch the anime or you could live it.
And that's my two cents. I hope to see you all there."

"There are two reasons why people should absolutely go to the doburoku festival, so please forward this on. One, Shirakawa-go is a World Heritage site. Secondly, you drink the festival!
Shirakawa-go is the traditional Japan visitors expect. Experience a Japan without electric wires dangling across the roads, ugly concrete buildings blighting the landscape, and pachinko parlors assaulting your senses with neon and noise. Shirakawa-go is a small, clean village of thatched roofs nestled in a glorious valley. It's a step back in time. A twenty-minute walk from the main festival takes you to a postcard perfect lookout. You should walk it, if not for yourself, for the folks back home. Give them perfect postcard pics of Nihon.
Secondly, when else are you ever going to be served unlimited quantities of sake by beautiful maidens (or for the ladies, from the fire brigade)? It's this simple: you buy a small round red plate-cup thing (pardon the technical jargon) for 400yen. Hell, buy two. It's one-of-a-kind omiyage (it comes in a cute little box no less). Hang around in the temple yard enjoying the festivities and atmosphere. Then, the generous men and woman of this little town come out and serve you hand and foot as an honored guest. And, trust me, they aren't stingy; the booze lasts longer than you do. Also, this is doburoku! A sweet milky sake you're not going to come across often. I call it Oliver Twist booze because you'll hold your plate up high and ask again and again, "Please, sir. I want some more."
And as if that's not enough, there are onsens, karaoke, dancing, mock battles and ceremonial parades.
So in summary. You get treated like a feudal lord in ancient Japan. You could watch the anime or you could live it.

昔ながらの美しい景観と、世界遺産の白川郷合掌造で有名な「岐阜県白川村」にて、１０月１４日（日）に、「白川郷どぶろく祭り」が行われます！

Dobu what?! AJET trip to Doburoku Festival, Oct 14th
You may have caught wind of this event from last week's leaked top secret memo. To summarize the event, one of the most picturesque places in all of Japan hosts a giant drinking party, complete with entertainment. Shirakawa-go village should not be missed, and this is the village at it's prime. Check out Gavin's description below!

WHEN: Sunday Oct 14th, leave 8:30 from JR Gifu, return ~8:30 to JR Gifu (flexible return time)

Crazy Gifu Fall Festival Week, Oct 6-10
Mark your calendars now, or clear them if you already have something planned.
You do NOT want to miss some of the most incrededible festivals that Gifu (heck, all of Japan!) has to offer.
Chuno, Tono, Seino, and Takayama regions all have something.
It's also a 3-day weekend. So get out and see the unique crafts of our wonderful Gifu!
We'll have some more details of schedule of events at the festivals coming for you, but here are the basics about these festivals:
Seki Sword/Cutlery Festival, Oct Sat 6/Sun 7
Sword making, sword demonstrations, and lots of sharp things to buy.
Mino Lantern/Paper Festival, Oct Sat 6/Sun 7
Tranquile glowing lanterns on traditional streets, and lots of paper to buy.
Ogaki Mikioshi Matsuri, Oct Sun 7

Seki Sword/Cutlery Festival, Oct 7/8
Seki has been the center of sword making in Japan for centuries. A museum in Seki still preserves the fascinating art, even if Seki modern production is more knives and garden utensils. The festival is a celebration of all these. It's an amazing chance to see the swordsmith's entire process of making a Japanese katana. There are also sword demonstrations throughout the day. And the festival is your chance to buy loads of discounted Japanese blades and tools. (The Mino Paper/Lantern Festival is just a 15 minute ride away, so you can make a weekend out of these).http://www.sekikanko.jp/e/index.htmlThere are many events at the festival. Sword making demonstrations, iainuki (drawing your sword and slicing bamboo and straw mats), judo (martial arts), kendo (wooden sword fighting), kyudo (Japanese archery), taiko (Japanese drumming), and shishimai ("lion dance"). (If you want an unobstructed view of the swordsmithing, you can visit the museum a few other times during the year: the first Sunday of March, April, June, November at 10:00, 13:30, 14:30. Mino has long been a celebrated center for high quality hand-made washi paper. This small town celebrates its culture with streets lined with traditional paper shops displaying all their fine paperware products from cards and diaries to lamps and wedding dresses. Every year during the festival they have a lantern competition. At night, the streets are lined with delicately glowing intricately made washi lanterns. (The Seki Sword/Cutlery Festival is just a 15 minute ride away, so you can make a weekend out of these)http://www.greece-japan.com/mino.htmhttp://www.pref.gifu.lg.jp/pref/s11355/takumi/dentoumain/minowashi/english.htmlIt's best to view the lanterns at night, from about 6:30 (including one by the famed Seki doll teacher Chisako and some of her students!). The Tono region of Japan, including Tajimi, is one of the most prolific and long lasting centers of ceramics in Japan and is home to world famous types and methods of ceramics (Shino, Oribe, Seto, etc). Evidence of ceramics tradition there goes back more than 1,000 years. Tajimi today produces more than 50% of all domestic ceramics in Japan and is home to many of Japan’s most celebrated ceramicists. Because of its history, it also has some wonderful museums. The Museum of Modern Ceramic Art opened recently and is an acclaimed museum. The Gifu Prefectural Ceramics Museum details the history and methods of ceramics in Gifu. Takayama Festival, Oct 9/10
Takayama preserves the feel of an ancient Japanese mountain town. With its streets lined with well kept private homes, a host of ancient shrines and buildings, shops filled with famous crafts, and all surrounded by majestic mountains, Takayama is the place to go to capture the mystique of traditional Japan. The Takayama festival is held twice a year. Takayama is well worth a visit when the festival is not occurring to really see everything the town has to offer. Make it super special with a stay in a ryokan.

Takayama is well worth a visit when the festival is not occurring to really see everything the town has to offer. Make it super special with a stay in a ryokan.

９．２３ ホルヘとみんなのチャリティーＢＢＱ!
おつかれさまです！
夏のイベントの疲れはとれましたか！？ でもイベントはまだまだ続きます！
９月のＧｉｆｕ ＡＪＥＴはラテンです！ 岐阜で有名なペルー人「ホルヘ君」と協力して、ＢＢＱを来ないます！
このＢＢＱは、ホルヘ君が何年も前からやっているもので、毎回かなりたくさんの人（５０～）が参加します。
今回も、たくさんの新しい人と会えることを楽しみにしています！
ＢＢＱについて：
ホルヘ君は、５年ほど前から、ホルヘ君が出会った友達たちを呼んで、夏にほぼ毎月ＢＢＱをしています。
食べ物は、高品質なペルー＆ブラジルスタイルの肉をはじめとして、たくさん用意されています。
飲み物とお菓子は、ある程度は用意されていますが、不足することがありますので、基本的に各自持参していただくようお願いしています。
過去のＢＢＱでは、サルサを聞いたり踊ったり、スイカ割りをしたり、川で泳いだり、たくさんの人と話したり、もちろんたくさん食べたりしました！
学校などで働くネイティブ英語教師等の参加者が比較的多いですが、それ以外でも、いろいろな人と知り合いになるいい機会です！

Jorge/RPA/AJET BBQ Extravaganza!
Hey all!
I hope you are recovering from the event-packed month of August!
But have no fear that the action stops here ; )
AJET will be supporting Jorge in his world-renowned (well at least Tokai-renowned) BBQ party in Gifu City this month!
Many of you may be veterans of these gatherings, but we hope to see lots of new faces this time as well!
HERE'S THE INFO:
Every summer for the past 5 years Jorge (friend of JETs and just about anybody he meets, for those of you who don't know) hosts a BBQ party once a month.
Tons of food is always provided, often including the highest quality Peruvian or Brazilian meats.
Some drinks are also prepared, although people are requested to bring a few of their own
beverages and snacks to make sure there is enough.
In the past activities have included listening and dancing to salsa music, suika-wari (playing pinata with a watermelon and then eating it), swimming in the Nagaragawa River, and hanging out with a great group of people-- not to mention EATING A LOT!
While JET attendance is always high, this is also an opportunity to meet a variety of non-JETs
(Japanese people as well as international community members).

*Donations for Peruvian earthquake victims requested.
CHARITY:
In addition to the normal festivities, this time donations will be requested for charity.
Jorge is Peruvian, and many of you may be aware that a disastrous earthquake occurred in Peru on August 15th.
The earthquake centered 155km south of Lima had a magnitude of 8 leading to over 500 casualties and 1,000 wounded.
The event has left many people without adequate shelter, water, medicine and other supplies.
Through the BBQ we hope to raise funds which will be donated to an organization directly working with victims of the earthquake.
While Jorge's family is safe because they live far away from the epicenter, many Peruvians are trying to recover from devastation.
Anything BBQ partiers could offer will be greatly appreciated. m(__)m

８．２５～２６ 洞戸キャンプレポート
おつかれさまです！
８・２５（土）～２６（日）は、ＡＪＥＴ夏のイベントの最後となる、
「洞戸村大キャンプ」に行ってきました！
参加人数はちょっと減って、６５人でした！
その様子をかいていきます！
バス組は、２５日（土）の１１時３０分にＪＲ岐阜駅に集合し、 １２時に出発。
車組は、１時以降の都合のいい時間に到着です。
バスには３０数名が乗り、キャンプ場には１時過ぎに到着。
ビール、酎ハイ、スナックなどを食べたり飲んだりしながら、 隣の板取川で川遊びをはじめました。
天気は二日とも快晴で、絶好のキャンプ日和！
周りにも、たくさんのグループが来ていました。
水温も適当で、気持ちよく遊ぶことができました。
水中をよく見ると、小さなメダカがたくさん泳いでいました！
近くのグループが連れてきていた犬が、 犬かきで泳いでいて、かわいかった！
ひとしきり川に入って遊んだ後、河原で集まって話したり、
更に飲んだりして、夏の終わりをまったりと楽しみました。
車組が、徐々に集まってきて、人数もだんだんと増えてきました。
途中、転んで足を切った人がいましたが、大事には至らず、
キャンプ場オーナーのご協力もあり、 無事病院へ連れて行くことができました。
オーナー、アレックス・ジェームス・キース、ヘルプありがとう！
夕方になって、徐々に日が暮れてきました。
バーベキューのスタートです。
毎年、肉は大きめで、豪快な感じです。
今年は、人数が若干少なくなったためか、 夕食は余裕をもって、平和的に進みました。
焼きそばも、野菜も、とてもおいしかったです！
だんだんお腹が満ちてくると、夜の部に突入です。
今年も、酒を飲んだりお菓子を食べたりしながら、
カードやテーブルゲームをしたり、話したり、踊ったり、
それぞれが、好きなことをして時間を過ごしします。
もう夏の終わりからなのか、川が近くにあるからなのか、
涼しく、気持ちのいい夜でした。
こうして、夜はゆっくりと更けていきました。
翌日（２６日）は、８時半頃から徐々に起床。
朝食はパン、バナナ、コーヒー等です。
掃除をした後、多くの人は、再び川に入りました。
川の水は、朝はとても冷たく、すっきり目が覚めました。
午前中も、川遊びをゆっくり充分堪能しました。
そして、正午くらいから荷物をまとめ、 帰途に就きました。
二日間にわたる洞戸村大キャンプは、こうして終了しました。
今年は、一人けが人がありましたが、 それ以外は特に何事もなく、終わりました。
日本人参加者は順調に増えてきて、よい国際交流の場になりました！
お互いが、今まで気づかなかったことに気づき、学びあって、
良いところを吸収し、高めあっていただけたらいいなと思います！
というわけで、８月のイベントはキャンプで最後になりました！
９月以降は、平均月一回のペースで、何かやっていく予定です！
ひとまず９月は、ラテンの風が吹き荒れるかもしれません！
また情報をアップしますので、是非一度お越しください！

８・２５～２６ 洞戸大キャンプのお知らせ！
みなさんお疲れ様です！
８・２５（土）～２６（日）洞戸村大キャンプのお知らせです！
毎年恒例、このイベントなくして、Gifu AJETは語れません！
参加はどなたでも大歓迎！
世界各地からのいろいろな人と会うことができる、素晴らしい機会です！
土曜の午後から、緑あふれる岐阜の山々の間を流れる美しい川で遊ぶことができ、
夕方からは、食べ放題、飲み放題のバーべキューを行います！
夜も引き続き、飲んだリ話したり、 自由に楽しむことができます！
(キャンプ場の中央に自由に使える小屋があり、周りには就寝用の小さい小屋がたくさんあります。)
翌日の朝には朝食が用意され、日曜は引き続き川で遊ぶのも、家に帰るのも、自由です。
洞戸大キャンプは、夏を楽しむ最大最後のチャンスです！！笑
２５日（土）の１２時に、ＪＲ岐阜駅を出るバスをチャーターしました。
ご利用を希望される方は、１１時４５分に、JR岐阜駅北口ロータリー付近へお集まり下さい。
昼食は、乗車の前に済ませるか、バスに持ち込んでください。
もしバスで来られない方は、交通手段を各自確保していただき、申し込みの際手段をAJETまでお知らせください。
日曜の帰りは、Gifu AJETではチャーターバスは用意しておりませんので、
各自路線バスで帰るか、車で乗り合い等交通手段を確保してください。

８・２５（土）～２６（日）洞戸村大キャンプのお知らせです！
毎年恒例、このイベントなくして、Gifu AJETは語れません！
参加はどなたでも大歓迎！
世界各地からのいろいろな人と会うことができる、素晴らしい機会です！
土曜の午後から、緑あふれる岐阜の山々の間を流れる美しい川で遊ぶことができ、
夕方からは、食べ放題、飲み放題のバーべキューを行います！
夜も引き続き、飲んだリ話したり、 自由に楽しむことができます！
(キャンプ場の中央に自由に使える小屋があり、周りには就寝用の小さい小屋がたくさんあります。)
翌日の朝には朝食が用意され、日曜は引き続き川で遊ぶのも、家に帰るのも、自由です。
洞戸大キャンプは、夏を楽しむ最大最後のチャンスです！！笑
２５日（土）の１２時に、ＪＲ岐阜駅を出るバスをチャーターしました。
ご利用を希望される方は、１１時４５分に、JR岐阜駅北口ロータリー付近へお集まり下さい。
昼食は、乗車の前に済ませるか、バスに持ち込んでください。
もしバスで来られない方は、交通手段を各自確保していただき、申し込みの際手段をAJETまでお知らせください。
日曜の帰りは、Gifu AJETではチャーターバスは用意しておりませんので、
各自路線バスで帰るか、車で乗り合い等交通手段を確保してください。
キャンプ場付近の停留所から出るバスの時刻表は、本文後半にあります。

Camp Horado Announcement
Hey Party People,
Many have been asking about this most awesome of events.
Here's the lowdown on Camp Horado:
This is a not-to-be-missed annual AJET event. Anyone and everyone is welcome!
This is the perfect chance to meet and talk with JETs, Japanese, and other foreigners, all who will be joining in.
We have all afternoon to relax and play in the cool waters of a Gifu mountain stream, then an all-you-can-eat/all-you-can-drink bbq that evening, and then more drinking, talking, and swimming(?) that night! (there's an open cabin to party/dance/talk in, and other cabins with bedding for those interested in sleeping).
Breakfast is provided the next morning, and you're free to spend the day along the river and head home as you please.
Camp Horado is your last big chance to enjoy the summer!
We will charter a bus to leave from Gifu JR Station at 12:00 on the 25th (please eat lunch before, or bring something to eat).
If you don't take this one bus, you will have to arrange your own ride there. We need to know which!
On Sunday, you can take the bus home (schedule below) or arrange a ride. There will NOT be a charter bus going back to Gifu.

Take 256 Northbound from Gifu. You will see Horado Bridge (Junction 81) on the righthand side.
Continue straight for 500m and you will see the sign on the lefthand side.
The camp grounds are on the righthand side across the river.
The Horado Camping Center is about 30 kilometers south of Gujo-Hachiman.
Take the 256 South-bound from Gujo-Hachiman.
After the 256 merges with the 52, continue for 12-13 kilometers.
You will see the sign on the right, and the Horado Camping Center on the left.

おつかれさまです！
Gifu AJET（ギフ・エージェット）は、 ８・１８（土）に、

参加者は、栄ツアー２０人、ビアガーデン４５人ほどでした！
こんな感じでした！

（１）栄ツアーレポート
今年で４回目となった、栄ウォーキングツアーです。
毎年８月頃に、夏に日本に来たばかりの外国人を主な対象として、
東海地区で最も大きな町である栄を紹介して歩きます！
３時に、JR名古屋駅の中央エスカレータ下時計台に集合して、
今年で４回目となった、栄ウォーキングツアーです。
毎年８月頃に、夏に日本に来たばかりの外国人を主な対象として、
東海地区で最も大きな町である栄を紹介して歩きます！
３時に、JR名古屋駅の中央エスカレータ下時計台に集合して、
以下の順番で見て歩きました。
・ミッドランドスクエア・・・名古屋の新名所として、
・ミッドランドスクエア・・・名古屋の新名所として、
栄行きの地下鉄に乗る前に、１ＦとＢ１フロアを通って行きました！
・ラシック・・・こちらもまだ新しいデパートとして紹介し、

３０分ほど自由時間をとりました。
地下においしい食べ物屋などがたくさんあるので、
みなさん色々と試していました！
・アップルストア、ギャップ・・・岐阜にないので、参考に紹介。

アップルストアは好きな人は好きなようです！
・パルコ・・・こちらも定番、４５分ほど自由時間をとり、

無印やタワーレコードや服屋など、いろいろなところを歩きまわっていたようです！
・ロフト・・・「面白いものがたくさん置いてある場所」として、紹介しました。

ロフトは岐阜にもありますが、栄のは大きい！
・丸善（本屋）、明治屋（食べ物屋）・・・それぞれ、

輸入食品（シリアルなど）の品ぞろえが豊富です。
岐阜では手に入りにくいので、彼らがどうしても必要になった時のために紹介し、
３０分ほど自由時間をとりました。
その後、この時期に毎年やっている「広小路祭り」を見て、

人ごみにまぎれながら、 ビアガーデンまで歩いて向かいました。
すごい人の数でした！

今回思ったのは、４年前始めた時と比べて、

そして、ファッションに対する関心の違いは面白いです！

実は思ったほどでもないってことに気づいて、驚いたものです！
まあでも、せっかく日本に来たんだし、たとえ買わないとしても、
２０代の日本人が関心があるものを紹介するのは面白いだろう、って感じですね！
そんなかんじで、ビアガーデンに続きます！

栄ツアー参加組（主に外国人）と、現地集合組（主に日本人） が、
まあでも、せっかく日本に来たんだし、たとえ買わないとしても、
２０代の日本人が関心があるものを紹介するのは面白いだろう、って感じですね！

栄ツアー参加組（主に外国人）と、現地集合組（主に日本人） が、
ビアガーデンで合流しました。
集まったのは、日本人と外国人合わせて４５人ほどで、 比率も大体半々でした。

日本人、外国人ともに、今回初めて来ていただいた人も多かったです！
名古屋に住んでいる方にも、参加いただきました！
メキシコ出身の方のグループもいらっしゃいました！
７時ごろからスタートし、最初のほうはまったりした感じでしたが、
最終的には、近くにいたグループの人たちともからんだりもして、
大いに盛り上がりました！
屋上だったため、風も気持ち良く、すがすがしい夜でした！
こうして、９時すぎごろに終了しました。
みなさん、たくさん飲んで食べて語って騒いで、
よい時間を過ごされたと思います！
たくさんの人に、やってくれてありがとうという感謝の言葉をいただきました！
今年も新しい人が沢山来ましたので、新しい年が始まったなーという感じです！
これから、どんどん新しい友達を作って、
いろいろな思い出を作っていただいて、
自国の文化を大事にしつつ、他国の文化も理解する、
アツイ国際人になっていっていきましょう！！

というわけで今年もやります、 通算４回目になった、栄ツアーとビアガーデン！
まずは概要から！

【栄ツアー】
(1) 時間・場所 午後３時に、ＪＲ名古屋駅１階高島屋エスカレーター前集合
(2) 会費 なし
(3) 内容 日本に来たばかりの外国人を主な対象として、 名古屋の中心地・栄を案内します。参加は誰でも歓迎です！
(4) その他 ビアガーデンにも参加される方は、引き続き会場まで案内します。
【ビアガーデン（中日ビル）】
(1)時間／場所 午後６時３０分に、中日ビル１階（栄駅１２番出口すぐ）集合
(2)会費 ３，３００円 、２時間食べ・飲み放題

(4)内容 英語圏中心にいろんな国の人と、ビアガーデンで楽しく飲みます。例年とても盛り上がります！

「ヘェー 外国人から見たらそうなんや」ってな感じで、日本の「当たり前」を、別の視点から感じることができます！ 気軽にカルチャーショックが楽しめますよー!笑
興味がある人は、ぜひ来てみてください！
そして、ビアガーデン！
いろんな国の人が来ますので、世界各地に友達ができます！
ほとんどの人は、 日本文化や日本語に興味があって日本にきている人なので、言葉の壁とか関係なく簡単に友達になれますし、 皆さん日本に来たばっかりでハイテンションになっているので、 かなりエネルギーをもらえます！
外国人は大学卒業した手の２０代前半が多いです！ 英会話スクールのような先生・生徒の関係じゃないので、 対等に、気楽に接することができます！
堅くならずに、自分にその気さえあれば、 初対面の人に対して距離感を大事にする日本人同士よりも、意外と友達になりやかったりしますよ！
グローバル化が進む現代、英語もさることながら、 いろんな人と接して、いろんな価値観を理解、尊重することは、 とても重要になってきます！
でも実際問題、忙しい日本で、海外に長期で行って、 現地の人と知り合う機会は、なかなかないものです！
こうしたイベントは、日本にいながら、 そういう経験ができる、絶好のものだと信じています！
そして、他国を肌で感じることで、日本についての理解も深まります！

Sakae Tour & Beer Garden, Sat 18th August
We love Nagoya, our big sister city to the South, so we'll of course be having our annual Sakae Tour & Beer Garden again.
Following a walking tour of the thriving hub of Sakae, there will be much merriment as we eat and drink on a rooftop beer garden (which is only open a few more weeks!).
Afterwards, there are numerous Nagoya entertainment options to choose from.
